My girlfriend's bike has recently started to cut out at high revs on motorway journeys. When this happens it is normally easy to restart the bike again on the side of the road. The problem is very intermittant in nature: for example the bike will be fine for 40 miles and then cut out 4 times in the next 8 miles.

The bike is otherwise in good condition, recently serviced and MOTd . Until the problem started it was used for a 24 mile daily commute.

I have changed the plugs and drained the fuel tank without any resolution to the problem. I have taken the bike to the repair shop twice and they have been unable to find anything as it behaves itself impeccably when road tested!

I would be grateful for any suggestions.
