Hello All!

Completely new to YOC. Glad to be here, and hope I can learn and contribute!

Just purchased '86 FJ1200 (s). Have been lusting after this bike since first sight many, many, MANY years ago. Finally, birthday present from wife!

Bike is completely stock, and after riding my previous Seca 750 ('82) for almost 20 years, I know that comfort is not necessarily built in to Yamaha's. Looking for recommendations as to seat upgrades, etc, as well as information on luggage (bags, tank bags, trunk bags) that are both useful AND safe or approved for the FJ. Any other suggestions (other than purely performance, as believe me, I'm no mechanical "ace") will certainly be most appreciated.

I'm not in this bike for the speed (although VERY impressive of course). Just one of the finest sport-touring bikes ever made. This will not be a garage queen or show place bike. She'll be ridden and cared for lovingly.

Hope I'm in the right forum!!

Thanks to all.

Nothing wrong with the comfort on the standard FJ1200 seat.

Hi Knuckles:

I appreciate the reply. I can't say with any certainty the comfort/lack of with the 1200 seat. My experience and info is/was directly related to the Seca 750, which, after several x-country rides, wound up with an "air seat" which, while not the easiest to use, was significantly more comfortable than stock.

Since I've not put more than 100 mi on her, I'll lend my seat to your advice!

Thanks for the reply, and ride safe.

The FJ is a great bike. I recently did a 700km round trip where we spent from 11:00 to 18:00 in the seat. Fuel consumption was not so good due to the speeds we were doing, but I did not have even an inkling of a burning bum.
