Hello all. I have a 83 yammy dt125 lc with some wiring issues that i cant seem to solve. When i indicate the main lights front and back slightly blink with the indicators. I dont think this will pass the mot as it looks like im flashing people to let them go while im indicating, also i dont really feel that im safe while its happening.

i have had the haynes manual out and the wiring apart trying to find the fault but im not entirely sure what could be causing the problem. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this.

A bit of history of the bike..... When i bought it the idicators were not connected. The flasher relay is new as the old was faulty. The left hand switchgear was broken and i have not been able to find the correct switchgear for this bike. I have ended up putting the left hand switches from a fazer 125 on it instead which of course didn't fit so ive ended up rewiring the switches into the old wiring. Im pretty sure that it could have been something i have done but i have checked everything four times and it all seems right. everything is working fine apart from this.

Can anyone who has any wire patching experience give any ideas at all what the problem could be? please help!

Hi i have checked earths also and i can find any bad ones :( i will check them all again. you don't happen to know where the frame earth will be do you? i haven't found it yet. would that be a direct earth from the idicators or from the battery or a general bike earth?

try connecting the battery neg straight to the flasher lamp. if it flashes properly then it is the earth. the main frame earth should be near the battery...i suppose

when you say the front and rear lights blink, do you mean they dim and brighten a bit, or really flash?

are you testing this at idle? have you tried revving the engine? it's possible that with the lights and indicators on there is not enough current available from the battery to drive everything, so it needs a little help from the alternator.

if it isnt a duff earth, it may be that the battery is u/s and is drawing too much current, this is causing a voltage drop and the lamps to flicker in step with the indicators.

why not take the indicators off?

Thanks for the help and ideas. i have been testing at idle and still same problem. I dont mean that the front and rear lights are blinking but they are dimming with the flasher.

I have found a bad connection in the main switch and the power is dropping as it comes out of the switch. I have now bypassed the switch and added a fused power line straight from the battery with its own switch for lights. fun and games.

yes i shud have just taken the indicators off but id rather find these faults and have everything working fine :)

Hey its all a learning experience.
