stupeo
Hi All, New to biking after waiting twenty years to take the plunge ;-) I have bought a thundercat which i have been riding now for two months and absolutely Bl00dy love it. had it upto 150mph on a private stretch of M-way somewhere in Europe ;-) I have noticed that the gearbox sounds very whiny almost like a straight cut rally gearbox !! It seems to be worse when i am plodding along at low revs. But last night i did my first long trip of just over 300 miles, first problem was on the M-way, I tapped the gearlever down to what should have been 5th and then throttled back, but it was if i had put the bike in neutral, i had to have two attempts before it went into gear. Then several times whilst pulling up to junctions, i was going down through the gears and when i went to go into first, it would not go, It seemed to be stuck in neutral and i had to really hit the gearlever to get it to drop into first. Is this common on these bikes.... I don't seem to have the 2nd gear problem which i have read a lot about. Bugger just noticed i typed thindercat instead of thundercat in the title and can't change it ;-(
yoda
Your Thindercat is suffering from a worn gearbox. I suspect that the selector forks need changing.
billa65t
Hi there, Not good news it sounds like your thundercat is suffering from a worn gearbox most likely worn selector forks and bearings !!! now unless you are going to do this yourself it is probably going to be very expensive not so much the price of the parts but the price of the labour to remove and strip the motor/gearbox and replace the worn parts?? Before you go any further i would recommend that you take you bike to a reputable dealer and get an expert opionion on the cost of putting it right, and then maybe consider buying a damaged - repairable or just another motor and swapping them over? good luck and think positive
