Hello all,

I have recently purchased a 1987 TZR 250 that has just been put back together as a on road bike from being tracked.

After each run out on it one of the spark plugs goes down.

I have reduced the in tack mix to 110mm of comp2 oil per galon of petrol, as the bike running too rich would be the first obvious diagnosis. However this does not seem to have made any difference. Still eating those plugs !

A couple of people have told me that the coils may need replacing, and if i am to replace them i should replace them with Dyna coils to also act as a performance up grade.

Apparently i need to give the supplier the ohms rating in order for them to be matched up.

The current coils are denson with a part number of 1KT - 50J0136. Yamaha does not recognise this number, there for i am unable to tell how many ohms it needs.

Can anyone help me please? Perhaps with the ohm information, or an alternitive diagnosis to the spark plug problem

Dont know about coil spec but as it was a track bike has the ignition been altered and are you using road going plugs as i would think plugs for track use would be a different heat range, which i suspect would give you a problem.

too much oil does not mean the bike is running rich. it will in fact be running lean as there will be too little fuel and too much oil.

what does the plug look like when it is defunct? colour? wet? dry? cracked?

iv got a 2004 tzr 50....

iv went through about 5 new good sparking plugs in about 2 weeks.

have you got any idea why?

sometimes the plug is abit dry...

but everytime i put a brand new plug in, its starts strate up no problem, after a few mile it just cuts out and wont start unless i put a new spark plug in
