sirwebster
Hi all, my '96 TCat that i've had for about a month is refusing to start, it was playing up toward the end of a ride the other week (cutting out at low revs, had to be bump started) and was found to have a duff battery. New battery in, still won't fire, i've checked spark plugs 1 and 4 and don't seem to be getting a spark, got some on order just for the hell of it, but what else could it be? all the fuses are good. I removed a datatool S3 alarm during my problem hunting (did nothing but piss me off) and am pretty sure i did it right, cut the wires to positive, negative and ground, then cut and reconnected the red/white and blue/white wires and removed a badly soldered in resistor from a brown/white wire (checked the wiring diagram in the haynes manual first to make sure it wasn't meant to be there). nothing i've left in is there? Hi there from the sound of it you have a duff coil , if you have a Haynes manual you should be able to check the primary and secondary resistence of you coil to see if it is duff ? if your not sure how to do this the other way to check you coil is to swap the coils and the leads over ( dont forget to swap the wires supplying the coils ) and then see if you have a spark at 1 & 4 if you have you know you coil has had it If you still dont have a spark chances are your cdi unit has had it ? sirwebster
Small update, it's no longer a case of no spark, it's a case of an occasional spark, no pattern to it, sometimes it will spark twice then wait for a few seconds before sparking again, sometimes no spark at all, replaced the CDI, no difference. any thoughts?
