Posted June 2, 200816 yr Ok... how far over is too far? Edges of your tyres? Leaving a little strip only 5mm wide? Am I just being excessive or should I back off now and should I be leaning off my bike?
June 2, 200816 yr 5mm!!!!!!!!!!! thats way to to much lol! I have my fz6 fazer s2! Sometimes if I go out for a blast instead of me leaning over to much at speed I use my knee as a gauge

Id use my knee, but with 40,000 quids worth of titanium in my spine... I cant flex enough to get my knee down that far. Im at the edge of my tyres (BT021 sports tourer dual compound jobbies) now, should i back off a little and lean off the bike now?
June 3, 200816 yr I use BT020's and have the same problem with getting to the edge of the tyre. It mite be a good thing to lean more in with the bike. there fore the bike will actuallt be more upright then you think
June 3, 200816 yr Learning all about tyre slip angles can be 'interesting' and lead to meeting lots of people that you would not really want to bond with, the hospital staff. So try not to go more than 55 degrees.

Do a trackday so you can concentrate on going round the same set of bends, slightly faster each pass with no lorries or cars coming the other way. The keith Code California race school is all about cornering confidence, you will soon lean what feedback is all about and be wearing out the edges before the middle is even touched! You could always try a sportier profile, softer compound tyre, The pointier the profile the more rubber on the ground at the same lean angle, so you are closer to the edge without being too much further over. Metzeler Racetecs 120/70 K1 front and 190/55 K2 rear. Just dont try it on a cold damp day Coz they get twitchy.

Ive tried the Metzlers, had Yamaha pit crew put a set on for me at Oulton Park BSB, they loved having a Kawasaki in their garage lol. Your right about the twitchyness in the wet.....good fun.... Doing the kind of miles I do (7500 since Feb), I have to use tyres that will last, so dual compound rear and a good sport tourer at the front. Im using BT021(rear) BT020 (front). Loads of grip, and goes round corners with no issues...(remembering that my motor isnt a standard 1100 its bored out and gas flowed) Id love to do a track day...but as said in previous post..my titanium wouldnt like it... Thanks for all advice peeps. I guess I`ll try not to over lean, use my judgement by feeling the angle with my pegs and feet.

I used to do a lot of courier work for the police force and courts...moving evidence like hard drives to specialist forensic peeps and to various courts around the country, so security was a big issue, yes..it was a case of guess where it is..

June 5, 200816 yr In all my years riding, I have never yet got the hang of leaning over with the bike, and have come off trying. Weirdly though I can push the thing over so the footpegs can scrape the road whilst adopting an upright posture - no doubt this looks w*nk to anyone following, but it does the job for me.

June 5, 200816 yr Moderator Back in the olden days in my teens me and a mate used to always see who could draw the longest line with the footpeg of our bikes on the road surface, there was a particularly good bend for this near his house, alas either the footpegs are higher these days or i'm not as brave

I can get my peg down...but not to see how long or if I can write my name with it
