So the beast is not in that bad condition but I want to resell and get a bigger track bike, I also I wanted a hobby for the summer and this is my first real project.

So I started by stripping it all down and then sending it off to the shotblast and powder coaters.

Forgot to take a pick of my black frame and awesome blue footpegs ??

I also got the coil blue aswell.

Iv just sent the forks to get new seals and we fitted a new kickstarer and mechanism because the starter motor is dead. Dunno whether to splash out and get a new one cuz iv got the kick start now ??

97c3814cdc08bdb805616949e949039e.jpg taking the clutchh off to fit it. Not to much hassle but keep a Haynes manual in hand !!

Just waiting on a swingarm bearing Set that tried to be delivered 10 days ago but I wasn't left a note to say I had missed it ??

And also a swingarm pin which had to be cut out because of seizing. Luckily I have an arsenal of family members tools at my grasp ???

Once I receive me pieces I should be able to start a rebuild and get a rolling frame and the engine in.

Hope to keep up to date.

Bad news !!!!

I left the bearings in when I sent to get powdercoated the heat from the oven seized the bearings and wrecked the swingarm. It literally bent while pressing the bearings out.

Ordered a second hand swingarm that I'll get refurbished and the new bearing put it. I'm not to Pissed off but we all learn from our mistakes. 😵😵😵

That's a shame! So you tried to remove the bearings when you got it back?

So my new swingarm came today and the bearings in are ???. So I have spare set now. I started by sanding ever thing down and preparing it to spray.

I put the two together to see how much the old one had bent.

Hopefully I should finish spraying it tomorrow and everything should be ok.

I'm sorry but the heat of the oven will not have caused the bearings to seize in. That's caused by  hamfistedness

The oven will only have been 180degrees so I can't see how that would cause them to seize

We did try to knock them out first. Should of put them straight into the press really. The old bearings hadnt been serviced oiled or maintained in over a year aswell as the bike has been sitting dirty.

Put the coil back on but unfortunately scratch the bottom side where the clamp pinged off during.

Also finished spraying the swingarm and I'm pretty impressed with my first time job.

My suspension linkage bearing had shattered so iv ordered a complete one off eBay and it contains the pin iv been waiting just under a month for from Japan.

So its been a productive day we started on putting the bike back together. We've put the yolks back on, Engine in, shock and linkage in, the swingarm back on, fitting the discs back to the wheels, new sprockets on and the back wheel or onto the bike. A few of the big bolts had to be re tapped but no big problems. We lost a bolt from the linkage and top of the shock but improvised with some new ones we had lying about. Just waiting to get the forks back and I have everything to fully rebuild. Everything's else is just cosmetic.

Cracking little build buddy, looks really smart, my only gripe is that i think you should have atleast given the engine a lick of paint to smarten it up. You have a beautiful powdercoated frame thats shiney and new then what looks like a rotten lump just chucked in. Kinda lets it down a tad.

Keep it up n looking forward to seeing the end result. :thumb:

  • 1 month later...

so iv had a very busy few months and due to losing my phone i couldnt take pictures. so i had a few session just tinkering around with little things, got the fork seals done then fitted the front end. cleaned and sorted sorting the wiring out. (annoying) and fitted it back together. i have to get the back brake fixed because the seals were wrecked. but now im really just waiting on cosmetics. new backside plasstic and brake levers, new clutch wire just the standard procedure really. gonna refresh the plastics and get some new graphics later on seeming as iv pretty much finished im slowing down and focusing on my new bike. i havnt even got to ride it properly in a month of having it because iv been to busy working on this project. but im really happy with how its turned out. maybe a new pipe and a clean down and it'll be spanking !!
