Spent the last 3 days pulling the DT to bits playing hide and seek with the spark and it was the bloody cap. A brand new bastard that i bought "to make sure" mutter, grumble, i've set the timing, swapped coils, plugs, been into my loom to be sure of connections.

"Caps either work or they don't" Ha, famous last words

Sorting her out for MOT on saturday, she looks nice even theough i've done nothing but cleanher up and paint the frame and the sw arm. She's all clean and nearly all the fixings are now stainless allen jobbies.

Thing is every time i tried for a test run its running great on the drive ticking over lovely, then you run up the road she wont rev past 7 thou then 6 then 5 then cuts out. 2hours later she'll start. Been driving me nuts.

Should be able to bed her down with a sneaky run out into the boonies tommorow, not too far though eh :)

Hmmmm, aside from CSF's morals and Dewpy's shit cap. It lives.

Really odd, plug cap was a duffer but it wasn't just that, i swapped the carb body over as i had one in better nick, on a hunch i swapped it back as the cap didn't really sort the running, swapped all the jets over everything and now its great, goes first kick. Baffled. Unless its just not as good internally somewhere i'll have a look later.

Did 5 or 6 mile (on private road of course) today as a test. Feels bloody dated next to the TDR but otherwise good, shoots round to 10k in the first 3 gears ooops (8K red line), tops out at an indicated 60ish with a wobbly needle. Handles far better than a bike this age really ought to. I think that chassis could handle another 10-15 hp, brakes hmmmm maybe 5 hp less

Anyho just need the MOT man to say nice things and she's sorted.

Have some piccies up later. ;)

Your motor sounds to be real sweet now Jason, "shoots round to 10K", mine wont do that no way..I'm considering converting it to a 6 wire CDI now as a winter project. The 6 wire was evolved from my 7 wire two coil set-up as you know. I am thinking it must be a better set up so am going to do it.

How did the MOT go and the piccies?

Oohh I thought yours was a later one, ( its the square swinger that throws me), dont get me wrong mine isnt bad but somehow I dont think its good enough. I think i'll connect a strobe and see if the advance is working first job. I have a 6 wire CDI and a backplate for the 6 wire CDI version and a mag rotor too for that version. The whole backplate needs re-wiring though so it will give me something to tinker with.

She's a bit of a halfbreed, 1980 bike, but the engine is unknown ( numbers never been stamped ). When i got the bike in the days of steam we had to run the extra red wire to the cdi to make it work. Otherwise she would only rev to about 5 thou.

Hmmm, just had a really stupid thought. Does the IT share cdi's or does it have one that lets the motor spin with maybe more advance to really get her moving with the bigger carb cos the IT has some 30 oddmm monster.

The only other real differences between our bikes is that airbox yours is carrying. I have got a straight stock 175 barrel and head. Same carb, albeit jetted different.

Just your comment on the revs made me think, surely their would be a limiter of some sort in there to hold the revs back with the red line being at 8ooo rpm, so she'd stop revving at maybe 9.

I know someone who might know i'll send him an e-mail.
