Hiya Fellers, Do you need a front breaklight switch for an MOT?

(if the rear works),

I`ve recently obtained a xs400, With MOT, but on giving it

the once over there's no front switch,

And by the looks of it there's not been one for years,

It came with all it`s old mot`s so it must be passing?,

Sorry if this seem`s an obvious question but i`ve never MOTed

a bike (30 odd years), But i`d like to add this one to the collection,

Cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark,

you only need one to pass the test but finding a switch shouldn't be to tough as the same style of switch was used on loads of different Yamaha modals that have a front disc break.

What in the wide world of sports is an MOT? Is that some sort of inspection?

Yep.

In the UK every vehicle older than 3 years has to pass an annual test to certify it's roadworthiness.

MOT Wiki

Interestingly, my MOT tester checks BOTH brake switches as it's assumed you ride properly and use the front brake a lot more than the back.
