  1. Hi Chaps i've just got my '89 DT 125 R, it was running fine but all of a sudden when riding it for the first time it totally cut out. It did not have any power at all then twisting the throttle. I stopped at the side of the road and it stalled, I kick started and it started first time, then ran fine again. I thought something could be blocked so i have cleaned the carb and the jet. I took it out for another ride and for a while it was fine totally back to normal. After about 30 minutes of riding it totally lost power at 7000 RPM, it sounds all spluttery through all gears and as it approaches the power band 7K it is awful! Now it seems to struggle to get to 40mph, very spluttery and does not go past 7000rpm. It came de-restricted witha DEP exhaust and im pretty sure he has done something power valve too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  2. I currently obtained a 1977 Yamaha Chappy lb80 from my dad. it was sitting there for a long time and does not currently run. i took it to the shop this morning to have them get it running again. my question is this. after i get it back, is there anything that i can do get more power out of it? obviously keep a clean filter in it, but is there anything else that i can do besides boring out the cyliders? thank you in advance!!! sincerely, happy_chappy_owner p.s. I know these machines were not made for a lot of speed, but i would like to get a little extra "oomph" so to speak as i am right at 200 pounds.
  3. 1982 XS400RJ, 30,000 miles with absolutely no horsepower. In the 1,000 miles I have owned it top speed was 45 MPH which was OK cause I didn't need to go any faster. Now I do. I had the engine out earlier this summer and here is what all I have done to/around it, with added info. After all that work the bike seems to have no more power than before. Compression is 135 and 140 PSI, new plugs, adjusted valves (way off), new fuel filter and lines (see thru), premium gas, cleaned carb and passages, spotless internals, diaphragms look great, changed both needle and seat assemblies (both old and new same float height setting), adjusted air screws and synched carbs, no popping or backfiring, smooth idle, bike starts instantly, clean air filter, gas tank is clean with no trace of dirt in fuel lines, clutch adjusted properly, different ignition box. Throttle response is great, it's just that I'm in 5th gear by 20MPH. I have not checked the timing yet, what is the best way?. Exhaust seems to have sufficient output but maybe I need to disconnect them. Anyone have a way to check mufflers without disconnecting them? Is there a sane way of checking float level? Unable to talk to prior owner. I can hold the brake and when I engage clutch the engine dies. It will also hold me on downhill slope with engine off and clutch engaged. Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Phil
