  1. Hello to all members! My name is Alex, and I am now on my second yamaha, the first sadly met with an un-timed ending but we shall not speak about that, the second is a beauty from 1986, a yx radian 600cc, I picked it up along with a FZ600 (english counterpart) engine and frame for the grand price of £600, had about 30k miles on the clock at the time. This is my first "bigger" bike so to speak as although I have been driving several bikes for about 3 years, I have only just (4 months ago) passed my full test. A little about me, I love anything with a petrol engine, currently studing engineering at Uni, though am on a placement year at the moment. I was chatting to a few guys at my local garage the other day and they suggested to go hunting for a motorbike owners club. It had never even occured to me that such things existed, shows how little I know! Anyway here I am, and before I start asking questions I thought I would show my face so to speak! I am quite happy with the electric side of things (thanks to my degree) however beyond some basic tinkering, and a little fafing around with an air-compressor and sprayer all my knowledge is in other fields. But as with all things a logical approach, the clymer yamaha manual and cup of tea should hopefully get me the distance!
  2. Hey everyone, good to be here! recently started riding a 2002 125 XVS Dragstar for last 2 months, its my 1st ever bike and really enjoying it! and because its im new to bikes i'll have to apologise for all the questions ahead of time! I think its running well, timing might be out a bit but nothing too much worry there (i think). however the rear brake doesnt seem too effective, just wondered how much, in general, it would cost to replace the rear brake shoes/pads? Also im from south east london/ croydon area and if people wanna meet up and ride and you dont live miles and miles away then would be good to meet up with a fellow cruiser biker cheers guys Stevo
  3. Hi just joined yami owners club and website looks awesome
  4. Wotcha everyone. My name is Si and I'm new to the club. I decided to do my CBT at the begining of November having never ridden a motorbike before, to satisfy my mid-life crisis. That is not as bad as it sounds. Kids have grown up and are going to Uni, leaving me, a single middle-aged bloke, with loads of time on my hands (I do shift work) and working through a bucket list. I was talked into buying the YBR125 by the bloke in the shop where I bought my helmet and gear from. I've only done about 300 of the 600 running in miles and have to keep the rev's low, but thats just as well, as I am using the bike to commute the 8 miles to work and back plus the odd weekend fun run. I am still trying to build my confidence on the road, which is hard on these cold, wet, mornings and evenings with some impatient motorist trying to drive up my 'Ah, Sole'. Cornering / Bends, in the wet still makes me crap myself as I am hypersensitive about sliding and falling off. Still can't judge how fast I can do it, so end up going about 5mph. Hill starts are another thing that can get me flustered, especially at lights with loads of cars behind. A mate told me to 'Claim the road' and drive in the middle, otherwise people will try to wiz past and cut you up. Still, its early days yet, every day in every way etc Any advice on cornering in the wet, hill starts, clearing wet visors etc would be appreciated. All the best. Si
