  1. nice twisty, however I see no knees on the tarmac and no bikes!!!

    Exhausts?

I would stick with the Scorpian can, ive heard MOTADs on other bikes and i personally dont rate them.
  3. ill see if i can google some americans getting thier knees' down on the tarmac then, but i reckon theres more chance of me finding Bin Ladens home address
  4. Well expensive but if your happy with that then thats cool, remember to declare all mods made to your bike, even the slightest thing like an aftermarket exhaust, for an extra 20 quid it stops the insurance company wriggling out of a pay out if you get hit off or throw it down the road, the insurance man is a sneaky fecker mate!!!
  5. how much did it cost in the end?? I found out why im paying over the odds, coz im in the bloody armed forces, my insurance company (motorcycle direct) claims that because im away some of the year throwing bullets at Bin Ladens evil henchmen that i dont have the continuity of riding all year round Im sure theres a case for discrimination here, maybe I will take my R1 to Helmand Province with me next time and squeeze a few miles in on my weekends off o sh@t we dont get weekends off on deployemnt:lol: Thanks very much for your support motorcycle direct, i hope the word gets out and i will be paying my queens notes to another company come renewal time in May
  6. So far ive worked out that only 1 in 10 people have an opinion on this matter, its just a poll to see what the general consensus is, nothing political behind it. , if i posted this on a honda website i would expect no votes as none of them can read
  7. Tell me about it, i think apart from the obvious engine size difference down here in Devon we have quite a few motorcycle fatalities in the summer months so maybe thats somthing to do with the cost of insurance, i dont know to be honest. A mate of mine is 26 and riding a 99 Blade, past his test last year and paying 550 green ones for TDF&T
  8. Ive been looking at some phots and vids of bikes in the good old USA and the majority of the footage is taken on long straight roads which is great for Dragbikes and old people in wheelchairs but not so good for those of us that like making contact with our knees and the tarmac. Where as parts of America have glorious weather for riding all year round I wouldnt sacrifice this for Britains bendy, winding roads especially the "Black Isle" in Scotland or "Snowdonia" in Wales, or even Dartmoor in England. I would be v.intrested to see an American rider taking a fast corner on his bike, that is if there are any American's out there that have been around a bend on thier machines
  9. I AM GUTTED I MISSED OUT ON THAT AUCTION STUNNING BIKE MATE
  10. This poll applies to 600cc & over Supersports bikes such as Fireblades, R1's, R6's GSXR's etc. When I was at RAF Kinloss in 2006 I did a BIKESAFE course with the Grampian Police, and I had been riding 11 years at the time but I learnt alot about riding at speed but much safer, and the police bikers were a good bunch of lads, I recommend this course to any biker of any age. http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/
  11. Well done lads, always good to see a charity run, not only a good cause but good PR for the biker community
  12. Hi folks, theres a few of us planning a ride-out early this summer from Plymouth, across the channel to France and then riding down to Spain, it will be a low cost trip staying in tents in the evenings etc. If we get enough names together I will post ferry prices etc and the route & duration will be decided by all that are going, all bikes welcome.
  13. Ill be suprised if you get insurance under £2000 from any company mate, i had to wait until I was 28 before I got a decent quote on a Fireblade, im 35 now, had my full bike licence 16 years and paying £200 Fully Comp on an R1 which I still think is a little high considering my no-claims and the anti-theft devices I have ie DATATAG, DATATOOL SYSTEM 3 etc. No offence to you mate but I think its better to get some serious road experience and no claims discount before heading out on the open road with a powerfull machine, I realise this may upset a few younger bikers out there but IMHO its the truth, experience does count and this reflects insurance quotes. Theres alot of lads out there riding without insurance, this is why the rest of us have to pay high premiums!!
  14. Since i share all my jokes in the pub i thought i would bring them here:- THINGS NOT TO SAY TO THE POLICE I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer. Sorry officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in I thought you had to be in relatively good physical shape to be a police officer I was going to be a policeman, but I decided to finish school instead Aren't you the bloke from the villiage people? Is it true that people become Policemen because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds? Well, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell off of my lap and got lodged between the handlebars and the throttle, forcing me to speed out of control. Hey, can you give me another one of those full cavity searches?
  15. The only problem ive had with the R1 is getting it up the stairs at night, and also the wife has been moaning a bit recently about how she gets in the garage at night, so ive bought her a sleeping bag, i wouldve got her a heater too but im saving for a steering damper!!! Obviously come the summer i will put the R1 back in the garage and bring the wife back upstairs
  16. Hello, i did a full respray on my old TL1000R and it turned out okay, heres a few pointers that may help:- PREPERATION 1.Remove all panels from bike, clean down all the panels with an alcohol based liquid such anti freeze or a de-icer fluid (works well) removing dust, road grime etc. 2.Use a very fine graded sandpaper and use a small sander (i used one of those palm hand sanders £10 to buy). 3.Ensure you sand down to a nice smooth finish. 4.Wipe down panels with soft cloth/dry paint brush removing any dust particles etc 5.Apply primer, i used a red car priming spray. applying slowly and evenly from 30 cm from panel to avoid runs/drips. 6.Once the primer has dried it should be as smooth as a babys @rse, no marks etc just smooth red coat. 7.Leave the painting for another day, go and play motogp on the 360 or somthing. SPRAYING 1.Make sure you have the right spray ie Gloss finish!! 2.Apply spray coat from 30 cm in short bursts, leaving for at least 10 minutes each spray to avoid runs etc. 3.Continue to apply coats evenly dont get over keen to finish it. 4.Once finished leave for next day, store in clean dry area do not cover up panels with sheets, cloths etc, wifes knicks etc. DECALS (Optional) 1.Apply a little bit of soapy water to the panel (helps to move decal if in wrong position) 2.Place decal onto panel adjusting as required 3.Leave to dry for about 2 hours 4.Apply laquer spray (optional) in short bursts covering whole of panel evenly, about 4 coats will do it 5.Leave for 4 hours. FINISHING 1.Refit panels to bike 2.Get on bike 3.Go to mates house and show off handy work 4.Take orders for work on mates bikes and make a few quid FROM THIS:- CLICK ON THE MAGNIFY CLASS FOR FULL SIZE TO THIS:- CLICK ON THE MAGNIFY CLASS FOR FULL SIZE TO THIS:- CLICK ON THE MAGNIFY CLASS FOR FULL SIZE I went a bit mad with the decals, but then I only did it to sell the bike anyway and ive done quite a few of my mates bikes too since then and all turned out quite good. Total cost for my TL1000R face lift was about 80 quid including decals but took about 3 days work. Hope this has been of some help, im no pro but it worked for me and my mates.
  17. Hi folks, ive just gone from a 2002 Ducati 996S to an Origional 98 R1 and its amazing. The 996S looked the nuts, sounded like 2 skeletons w@nking off in a biscuit tin and was as light as a scousers fingers, but once you pulled away from the curb is was an absolute bag of bolts, stalling all the time in cold weather and rain. I shouldve gone with my instincts and stayed with Jap bikes but I fancied a change and had a few quid in my pocket. My Ducati had recently been serviced prior to buying it (DUCATI MANCHESTER) (SPIT!!), £450 for a service, thats in pounds not roubles or Yen!!! After I got shot of it I looked around for somthing different, ive mostly had GSXR's, 2 TLR1000R's, 2 ZX7R's and a Fireblade, so I decided to try an R1 and now I feel like a bit of a muppet coz its a frikkin nutters bike and I love it like a cheap whore!!! I just wish I bought one years ago as I wouldve stayed with the R1's all they way. Anyway, a bit of advice from an old fart (35) if you want to sit outside your house or a Cafe looking the b@llox then buy a Ducati, if you want to ride a motorcycle and feel the flies kamikaze on your lid then buy the R1, its the buisness Just ask yourself the next time your out on your bike , where are all the Ducati's this time of year? DUCATI 996 £6000 FROM DUCATI MANCHESTER (a nice ornament) 1998 YAMAHA YZF R1 £2300 (FROM DEALER WITH WARRANTY) (what a bike!!!)

    saying hi

Just read yr profile brother and it is one of the old fizzy's, i started off on one of them mate in 1988, great bikes, lots of power for 50cc. Like the lads said, go easy bro, and always look at what the car drivers are doing, make eye contact with them, and if out in a group watch what your oppo's are doing on thier bikes and scooters at all times, so you dont collide, but above all young skywalker, always wear your leathers and gloves or your biking career will be shorter than Danny Devito's trousers. Take care
