I thought I would revive this thread. I have moved the earlier pics, but there are still quite a few later on in the thread. I will get round to replacing the moved ones.

He is doing it the right way round though. He wont be riding his unlicenced! Also, I assume he will make sure he is insured before he rides it. Nothing worse than unlicenced (therefore uninsured) inexperianced riders being out on the road on bikes they have no no rights to be riding. Some people are desperate to give all us legal riders a bad reputation by riding illegally. Nice bike by the way OP. Good sensible choice as an introduction to the world of bigger machines. Hi. Does anyone happen to know where I can source a steering stem nut, for a 2000 (5EB) R6 that is cupped for fitting my Harris steering damper? I have stripped the threads on the nut whilst tightening it. I have had to take the steering damper off and use my OE steering stem nut. I have no idea who to go to, to get one for use with the damper. Many thanks in advance for your time and trouble. Neil

Not read the whole thing, so no idea if it has been mentioned, but anybody, who has ever ridden over (approx, depending on bike) 17MPH has counter steered. With no counter steering, due to the gyroscopic effect, we would not be able to turn corners at all. It is something that is done unconsciously. Consciously doing it (in a straight line, push on your right bar, and you will turn right) makes it appear that it is a new technique, but really, it isnt. Sometimes doing it consciously can help though. If you find yourself going wide on a corner, the instinctive thing to do is slow down. That will make it worse. You have to accelerate a bit, and, if a left hander, push on your left bar. This will cause your bike to turn in harder, and you will make the corner. ....Just read it. Whoops lol. Must learn to read before posting a response lol.

That doesnt look too bad at all Dave. Do u have any pics of it in operation? My rear LED cluster have built in indicators too, but they are clearly differentiated, and are visible from a distance as indicators even when braking. Looking at yours, Im not sure they will offer that obvious difference. Make sure that you see it yourself from a distance. Tape the brake lever to the bars, indicate, then walk back away from it to a good distance and be sure in your mind that its obvious that you are indicating. If so, Im all for it. If not, I would add some separate indicators too, just to be sure.

Call a dealer and ask, and scout through the warranty paperwork. With a 5 year one, Im sure it will be transferable. However, when you call a dealer, try to restrain yourself from shouting like you have done in your post (TYPING IN CAPITALS IS DEEMED AS SHOUTING IN FORUMS, AND IS GENERALLY NOT WELCOMED). Hope you get some good news.

As the cold weather comes, the oil in the engine and gearbox gets thicker. It takes more power from the battery to turn the starter. Sadly, as the cold weather comes, the battery itself produces less power. The combination of the 2 results in bikes/cars becoming harder to start. If a battery is new, and used regularly, it should see through a winter. However, as they age, they get worse. I cannot recommend strongly enough the use of a batter optimizer/charger that can be left on all the time the bike is not in use (as opposed to a battery charger, that cant be kept on without long term damage). the optimizers condition the battery and make sure that its at peak performance all the time. I went out to the garage to my bike, took the alarm off, turned the ignition on, a bit of choke, and hit the starter. She fired into life immediately cause the battery is good and strong. If an electric supply is not to hand for you, solar powered optimizers are available. They obviously only work in the day, but with use, they should keep the battery in good enough condition to power the bike enough to start in a morning. However, if you do not know the history of the battery, and it doesnt look new, it is probably a good idea to replace it. Get an optimizer at the same time, and you will be ensured of years of use out of it.

I can guarantee that its not girls for me either. I am a biker because its fun, exhilarating, quick and challenging, dont get stuck in traffic jams, and have the power to accelerate out of trouble (or just for fun). Its a way of life.

I turn mine off when I have one that is visible. The R6 tap is only accessible by lifting the tank. I have idiot lites for reserve

I think I have been misunderstood. I am not hanging up my Helmet (I am actully in a way. My Shoei has been bagged up and stored, and my winter KBC is now in use). I am continuing to ride, but not the R6. That is off the road. I am using the ZX9R through winter. I am not subjecting the R6 to salty roads. I used it last year in winter, and it was a pain washing it after every trip out on it. It was the first time it had been run in a winter season. The ZX9R is more of a plodder, and is better suited to crappy roads, from its power delivery to the tires. This, is being replaced for a few months with this; . The R6, all being well, will be coming back in Spring with a new paint job (it was done in June, but it was done a a favor at "mates rates", and its far from perfect) and somewhat of a performance BOOST. Good times!

Went out last monday nite, only to find the gritters had been out before me (Nottingham). I have been saying for some months that as soon as the gritters are out, my bike is coming off the road. So, last monday nites use was the last of the year. It is going to live at a friends in his mega shed, where some little tweaks are going to be made here and there. All being well, it will emerge in Spring with a new coat of paint (had it done in June, but it was a cack job, and already looks more tatty than the paint that was on it from new) and a slight performance BOOST. Got a 2001 ZX9R as a winter runabout. Its a boat! Much more suitable than a highly strung R6 is for cold, gritty wet roads. Anyone taking their "good" bike off the road for winter and using something else?

Pirelli Diablo Rosso on mine. Like chewing gum, and good in the wet too. Expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I use chain cleaner, then apply wax every couple of weeks, with a bit of a spray in between if needs be. I cannot believe people use WD40 on their chains! Its bad for them and should be avoided. It breaks down the rubber (assuming your chain is an O/X ring) over time, and will shorten the life of your chain drastically. Its mainly a function, so to G-Man, you are ruining your chain if you only use WD-40. You will not have to do it every couple of rides if you use a proper lubricant. WD-40 is not viscous enough, and will be providing very little lubrication if any at all. Buy some chain cleaner, or use petrol/kerosene on a rag and a toothbrush. I always use Wax as it does not fling off at all, and prevents the chain looking bunged up etc.
