  1. That bike looks absolutely fabulous, but I am also biased as I also own an FJ.
  2. How fast is fast? that is as fast as the bike will go. The speedo is marked to 190kph but she runs a bit way past that. Location, location location.
  3. The FJ is a great bike. I recently did a 700km round trip where we spent from 11:00 to 18:00 in the seat. Fuel consumption was not so good due to the speeds we were doing, but I did not have even an inkling of a burning bum.
  4. Has to be the FJ1200. XS11 was gr8, only the handling was ...........
  5. Nothing wrong with the comfort on the standard FJ1200 seat.
  6. That sounds like a bad connection or a bad earth. Most probably the latter. Are U sure U want to drive in Botswana at night? I put spotlights on my bakkie and still cannot see the donkeys or the cows.

    oil light

That is why Yamaha specifies diffirent oil weights depending on temperature. The water temperature may be up to spec but the rest of the engine and gearbox is not. That cold and the oil does not run back into the sump fast enough.
  8. Mate, if that tyre has only run 50-100 miles then expect it to slip. New tyres have the mould release agent on it. It needs to run slightly more to scrub it off.
  9. Sorry I do not have a wiring diagram for your model. There has to be some sort of voltage regulation. Lead acid batteries do not like to be overcharged. We are talking here of 2.23 Volt per cell to keep it at least in a good condition. I suppose that 2.5 volt per cell max i probably allowed but then the electrolyte will be cooked off chop-chop
  10. Those values mean only that the voltage regulator is shot and the battery is cooked. Have the regulator fixed first.
  11. Have a look in the Yahoo Yamaha FJ site. They have a mod to improve the FJ lights as well. It means installing two relays and an inline fuse. I am not sure if the standard wiring will handle the current with a 55/60 headlight.
  12. OO posted so long ago Spark plugs DP8EA-9 I use Castrol 20w50 in my FJ1200, normal dino oil, this engine does not rev that hi. U get clutch slip if U change the oil type
