Welcome to proper biking and I hope you are a responsable one. I'm back to bikes in the last three months after 15 years out of it. (Mechanic) Nope sorry not in Preston, Lancs or anywhere near. Southwest Cornwall ie. Helston area. A Fazer eh ? Thats a hell of a bike to fire up on as first after passing. My workshop boss would really take the pi** if I told him but the Fazer is probably one of the best mounts going in the Yamaha line up to date. ( My boss is a Suzuki man ) Good on yer. Nonbodgit.
  2. I can see that I'm really gonna get really into this forum lark as its the third posting I ve done in last hour and I'm new to website and only back in the bike trade after a fifteen year absence. Look chum dont do it. You are not stupid and they think you are. You simply dont charge tax on top of a quoted price which includes P & P The price should include any tax without any other bother. Have the patience to trawl through the hundreds of breakers around the UK and do a honest deal and find out if any of the suppliers you settle on getting your part from are VAT registered and only deal with those on a UK phone landline and a traceable post code. Your best option will be to have the bike deemed a write off then find out which insurance storage compound the bike gets sent to. Buy the wreck back at a rediculously low price and start sourcing all the parts yoyu need to get it back on the road. Nobodgit.
  3. All Japanese motorcycles manufactured since 1972 were able to run on unleaded gas, well, the ones supplied to the UK were. However, the model of XS 400 you refer to were in the UK a poor replacement for the earlier XS 400 models as they had overheating problems due simply to poor design of the oil pathways and oil capacity which in turn resulted in burnt out valves. The model did not stay in production long compared to the early XS 400 / XS 250 series. You have a bike fated to have problems unless you're a magician in the machine shop and working with Japanese alloy and can find a way of having hardened valve seats and can find titanium valves to fit. 4. THis is a repeat of my submission to the bar forum. My first foray onto a bike website and it may surprise you when I readily admit to being in the trade but needing help fro anyone out there. I 've returned to the workshop after fifteen years out of it and my mission on this one is to turn an XT 600 Z into a goer. We had already repaired two other bikes in the last month that had been into another nearby local bike dealers who charged thier owners megabucks and still had not returned the machines as runners. We are determined to find the problem on the Tenere which unfortunately has also been to the rogue dealer down the road and it also had its generator and possibly the pickup coils etc re- wound in Germany. The owner was pursuaded to buy from the previous workshop a CDI unit which turned out to be for a non UK bike. The second unit he supplied is a new aftermarket pattern part from a reputable manufacturer but the wiring on the bike does not match the CDI wiring colours. There could be any number of other electrical anomalies. This bike may have a mixture of UK and continental European wiring and components. I do not have the time to go searching and bidding on E Bay for a genuine Yamaha Workshop Manual for this model so the call goes out for anyone out there with an XT 600 Z Genuine workshop manual to sell for a reasonable price. The owner doesn't mind being charged for this so we would appreciate being able to go through all the Yamaha testing procedures on the electrics and ignition on this bike to get this poor blokes bike back on the rough and the road. Anyone ready to do a deal, look forward to hearing from you. Nonbodgit.
  5. Well here goes, my first foray onto an internet forum on bikes. This should serve to show that even some of us in the trade don't know it all. I've returned after 15 years out of it to the workshop which is non franchised and but equipped to the teeth and prepared to service and repair anything. We have an XT 600Z with a G plate. Its a UK model and unfortunately for us we have to get this non runner into a goer. The recent work history given to us though means we need to follow all the genuine Yamaha testing on the electrics and ignition system to find the fault. It has been to another nearby local repair shop who fobbed the owner off in an appalling manner and other work done on the machine in Germany leads us to think that the bike has a mixture of UK and continental European elctrical components. The owner doesnt mind us charging him form this and I have not got the time to go fishing through and bidding on E Bay for a manual, so, does anyone out there have a manual for a G reg XT 600 Z, and if so lets do a deal. This will be very appreciated as we have already repaired two other bikes in the last month that have also been to the rogue workshop down the road that have charged their owners megabucks for not repairing their machines. Look forward to hesring from anyone. Nonbodgit.
