  1. Hi folks Jonny and his sr are putting me to shame but then Mrs back in the day won't let me put the bike on the kitchen table! I have now got the numbers off my bike the it frame no is 8 or3 R905089 D and the dt engine number 2 K4068201. And the outside diameter of the air filter end of the carb is 43 mm if anybody can help with the mystery of what combo I have I would be very grateful cheers rich
  2. Looking good Jonny thourght you were getting the professionals in to do the tank
  3. Hi Jonny all looking good bud so mrs Jonny has spoken ! Have you used the paint for the frame before looks interesting good luck for Friday hope you've got a sleeping bag!
  4. Hi Deliak just started a it / dt 175 mx resto myself had a few when I was a kid great bikes good luck you will love itwhen it's done
  5. Jonny looks like your going to have a top job and at a bargain price mate I think your right to have the tank done by a sprayer shouldn't be to many dollars because you've done all the hard work sounds like your going for 2 pack it's a fab finish and you can almost play basketball with your tank without damaging it lol! Hi drewpy did you think 80 quid was a bit steep for blast and powder coat I thought it seemed a pretty good deal especially if the bike was in a state and to get a top job but not as satisfying as doing yourself Is that still mrs Jonny kitchen table lol Loving the photo with a side panel in the fruit bowl!
  6. Hi Jonny 15 hours of grinding I admire your work ethic our local sandblaster does a medium frame and swing arm 80quid including powder coat but I suppose that's the easy way out used to do the even harder way by hand when I was a kid I think that's what put me off! Keep up the hard work you making good progress top looking tank for the money!
  7. Well done mate I have got to say sr was never a bike I wanted to own but I love the look of the end result bike what a transformation will follow your thread and the way your going I think it won't be long before you have a great looking bike !! Good luck Bet your getting stick from her in doors about the kitchen table restoration! Lol!
  8. Thanks for the top tip lads got in first time that was driving me crazy!
  9. Sorry drewpy new to forums and didn't know the drill. Thanks for your reply Paul having real trouble logging into the site having to change my password every time I try to log on anyway back to the bike will measure the carb and get the number off it. The bike has a expansion pipe fitted it came with a rear silencer in the box of bits but it's a right hand exit and the expansion pipe finishes on the left hand side of the bike. Will post photos soon as I said the bike was bourght as a project nice blasted and powder coated frame and fully rebuilt engine and box so a great base to start with it needs a seat cover and a few bits and bobs I would prefer a airbox Paul but if you think a k an n will be ok I will give it ago. Seatcover came this morning nick from motoduro told me the seat base was off a it125! The plot thickens I will look for engine and frame numbers over the weekend to get to the bottom of things . I heard the bike run briefly when I picked it up I was told it had only been started a couple of times since the rebuild and not ridden. It sounded fine with bags of compression I took the guys word every thing had been rebuilt I can see the kickshaft gear splines coming out of thr gearbox are brand new and the kickstart lever is brand new so that's good news . All the electrics minimal but are either very tidy or new. Iam going for the white it 175 look I think they look great and timeless hoping to get close to airheads standard of finish! Great looking bikes by the way Paul hope to hear from you guys soon rich .
  10. That's two posts that have worked going to try one more before lights out I heard the bike run briefly when I picked it up i was told it had only been started a couple of times since the rebuild and not been ridden it sounded fine and bags of compression which you would expect from a rebuilt motor I can only take the guys word that everything has been rebuilt but you can see the kickshft splines coming out from the gearbox are brand new also the kickstart lever is brand new so that's good news all the electrics are minimal but are either new or very tidy iam going for the white it175 look which I think looks great and timeless hoping to get close to airheads standard of finish! 11. Having real trouble logging into the site I keep having to change my password every time to log in anyway back to the bike thanks for your reply Paul will get measure the carb and get the number . The bike has a expansion pipe fitted it came with a rear pipe in the box but it's for a right hand exit and the expansion pipe finishes on the left hand side of the bike . Will post photos soon if I can work out why iam having trouble logging in iam on my sixth password and when I get on and write a reply and press submit it just says saving and then it gets lost very frustrating that reply worked will add a bit while I can ! As I said the bike was bourght as a project nice blasted and p coated frame engine and box fully rebuilt so a great base to start with it needs a seat cover plastic base is in perfect condition also needs new rear guard and a few bits and bobs I would like a airbox but if you think a k an n would be ok I will give it ago seatcover came this morning nick from motoduro told me my seat was from a it125! The plot thickens I will look for engine and frame numbers over the weekend to get to the bottom of things
  12. Thanks for the welcome folks Paul I see what you mean will the dt engine be suited to a it air box if I can find one ! also the carb throttle valve slide is blackened so before the rebuild I think the bike must not have been running very well as I said the bike was bourght as a a project and came with the usual box of bits or in my case junk! One of which was a dented filthy k an n the 1982 august issue of the biker Had a article called project Dt175mx mods there we two more issues covering the project sadly I haven't been able to find those hens teeth ! they said running premix they found 190 main jet worked well i rang moto carb to get a price on a new carb verses a complete rebuild Steve said mikuni don't do a vm24 any more ? and I would have to purchase a vm26 would setting the aftermarket vm26 be difficult I understand the oe mikuni vm24 fitted to the dt had all its internals tuned for the bike . itching to get the bike finished and to go on my first road ride in years my damaged legs are not able to use a kick start but I have lots of mates and a willing son once a biker always a biker will post some photos and if any ones interested in the article I could try and post photos of the pages thanks in advance Paul cheers rich
