  1. It really does. I popped the tank off and emptied it. There's some rust inside, but I don't see/feel any major rust, it's mostly fine grit, and the metal below is smooth and bright grey. Should be an easy clean. The petcock screws were already stripped and the tubes that connect it are plugged shut, but I wanted to replace the petcock anyway(petrol tap according to the manual). I hosed it down with WD40, only got it to turn about -60 degrees out of the Reserve position. I'm pretty certain I'll need to take the carbs off now, clean them out and replace the gaskets before I attempt to start it(quick look didn't turn anything up, I'm hoping/guessing the XS400's will work as long as they're for SOHC, I'll check the manual). Things are about to get fun.
  2. I just bought my first bike one hour ago, a '77 XS360 (A French Blue XS360D according to the VIN), and I'm completely thrilled. It hasn't been on the road since '81 according to the plate and owner, and there are 5,000 original miles on it. A few superficial blemishes are on the paint, mostly on the gold accent lines, no scratches, no drops and some easy to remove surface rust on the exhaust. She doesn't run yet (very old gas in the tank, dead battery, bad clutch cable and dirty carbs), and I'm actually excited to get it rolling myself. That's about it, I'll be seeing you.
