  1. Cheers for the advice Slice. Like you I thought it was a bit daft having to remove the engine, so this morning I tackled the battery compartment, I was able to remove it and this gave me the access I needed to remove the rod. However, the rod didn't slide out as the manual implies, its stuck / held in place. Looking at the yamaha parts online catalogue there is a circlip present and underneath that is a seal. I don't have a tool for removing this clip so I wasn't able to get the rod out. Is this circlip the only thing preventing me from pulling the rod out or are there more surprises waiting for me? Also when I put the cable back into the bracket, and squeeze the clutch lever, I can't seem to fully disengage the gears even after removing all the free play from handle end and the adjuster. Is this something to do with the broken spring or something else? Pulling my hair out at this point! Thanks again Dan
  2. Hi! I Was lubing the clutch cable today, I noticed the cable had slipped out of the bracket at the engine end. I was trying to reset the cable into the bracket and return spring back into position and the b@stard spring just snapped ( the bent bit at the bottom ) I couldn't figure out how to replace the spring. I looked at the manual (ch 2-15 / 17 ) and it looks like the rod the bracket attaches to just slides out, but in the manual the engine has been removed from the frame. In place it looks like the battery bracket is going to stop the rod from coming out far enough to replace the spring. So 2 questions - 1 does the engine need to come out to replace the spring? 2 Is the rod supposed to just slide out or do I need to do anything else? I depend on the bike for work so need to get this fixed DIY ASAP! Thanks in advance Dan
  3. Yup. Timpsons are EXPENSIVE. They were also the only place in Brighton (within walking distance from work) that did bike keys. it was £8! 2 for £12. Jeeezz it took the guy about 30 secs to do each one. What a rip off. Of course now I have spares I'm NEVER going to lose the original. Thanks for the advice peeps.

  5. Hi folks! A quick quezzie. I need a spare key for my ybr. I only have one and I anticipate losing it before long. What are my options? The local key cutter laughed me off! Cheers Dan
  6. Thanks for the pointers! Lots to look out for then. I'm looking at http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/ybr_125/11/picture/did_chain_and_jt_sprocket_kit/ for the bits, pretty good price I thought. I couldn't find many alternative makes, will this do the business?
  7. Hi Folks - I'm learning my away around bike maintenance, it's secondhand 19k on the clock, with little knowledge of past servicing. I've been recommended refitting the chain and sprockets. I was wondering what you guys would be checking whilst the back wheel is off? I've got the Haynes and am happy to do entry level mechanics myself! Any thoughts? Cheers!
  8. Hi Folks, after a summer of misery on the trains (southern fail) I decided to do my CBT, see if biking could be an option for commuting. I'm glad I did because I love it! I wanted a bike I could maintain and do basic repairs on myself. I chose the YBR (2nd hand 19k miles) as it was affordable and robust. It's also a lot of fun to ride, as my commute is 90% 30mph limit with a few bus lanes thrown in to pass the suckers stuck in cars (legally I might add). So far I've done chain cleans and adjustments and replaced the speedo cable. Bought the Haynes manual to help out too. So in short loving the bike and looking forward to getting my hands greasy!
