  1. well, just done another 97 miles and got 59 mpg again. I don't get it?? p**sed off. Time for a 'real' bike I think
  2. Sod it, doing my test and buying a 'real' bike! After 97 miles, I have only achieved 59 miles per gallon. Not worth it when I can barely scrape 60mph. So much for the cheap commute. I can get 50 miles per gallon with the car doing that speed!!
  3. Like I said guys, I'm not looking for anything spectacular, just a little tiny bit more.
  4. Hmm, so maybe the fuel is the first thing to try. I was thinking of a smaller front sprocket for better acceleration through the gears. It would mean I was revving slightly higher when i get to fifth gear, which I would hope might keep my speed up. Are there not 4-stroke 125s with 15 hp on the market? Why is it that the sr can only manage 12?
  5. I realise this has been covered in the past but to avoid having to go through a load of old threads, I thought I'd start a new one. Ok, my question is this... Can any more power be gained from this little engine? I'm not looking for loads of extra top speed, but merely a little more power to be able to hold the speed a bit easier when faced with wind or hills. Anyone's personal experience with air filters or different carbs etc would be greatly appreciated. Please avoid the sarcastic remarks like - "yeah more power can be gained by passing your test and buying a bigger bike - hahahahah" I'm well aware of this, I just want to improve my wee bike as I'm quite fond of her. Thanks guys.
  6. Ok, so I had another go at cleaning the carb. Took the whole thing apart this time. I also fixed a small hole that I noticed on the exhausr. It's running far better now. sits at 60mph with no wind and can often hit 65mph. I took it on a long run the other day and got 85mpg! Problem solved. Thanks everyone for your help.
  7. yeah it's when it hits a bump or groove that it feels wobbly. it's unsettling
  8. Awesome, thanks. I reckon my size on such a tiny bike doesn't help either
  9. No, nothing like that at all.
  10. Thanks for your reply. mine is 2002 with 13000. I will try premium fuel. can't see it making that big a difference though I don't think my bike has the power for an extra tooth sprocket, although i need to check what' on it now. What are the standard sprockets front and back? While I'm on. Does your bike also feel unstable on any kind of bend? thanks
  11. Maybe that's it but I'm still not convinced. Anyone else please?
  12. I understand the top speed issue is my weight but I should be getting more than 59 MPG, surely?
  13. I have recently bought an SR 125 as a cheap means of travel and alternative to my car. After buying the bike I have changed the oil, cleaned and oiled the air filter, changed the spark plug, cleaned the carb and checked the chain tension. My problem is that I am only getting 59MPG. I am led to believe that i should be getting 80MPG+. Can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong? It seems to be running ok. Maybe a tad rich at 3/4 throttle but nothing serous. The bike will also sit comfortably at 50mph but struggles to do more than 60mph. I am 6'3" and 15 stone but surely that wouldn't make that big a difference? Very frustrating as I bought this to save me money, an I'm not saving as much as I would like. Thanks
