  1. One hidden rust to consider: your tank (provided it is metal and not plastic of course). Now 95 petrol comes with ethanol known for its hygroscopic properties (aka absorbs water from air and mixes with it) so if you do not use your bike often (like 1-2 months), the water will go to the bottom of the tank and it will start rusting. It happened to my previous Ducati and since I sold it and moved to the R6, I am only using premium petrol.
  2. I agree on wondering if it is worth spending the extra cost on premium; now here it is what I found: with my previous bike, a Ducati Supersport 1000ss, whenever I used 95 (BP or Shell) it developed some pinging noises at the front (no idea from where it came - valves?- but very annoying); whenever put the premium stuff everything was in order. Now I am planning to use only posh petrol on the R6 and one of the reasons is the lower Ethanol level. I am also planning to add som Wynn's Dry Fuel now and then as well as other additives to ensure injectors are clean and combustion is efficient. Well, I guess bikes can go on basic supermarket fuel for a while but for me is about ensuring the bike last as much as I want it to last.
  3. I am new to this forum and I would like to show my experience with CN. I have had bikes all my life but recently I tend to own them for summer rather for a full 12 months so it is not possible to get NCD record. Last bike I insured was a Ducati 1000ss and I had to go for TP only. The cheapest I could get was with CN at £480 without commuting (I live in London and this seems to make premium higher despite my age). Leaving on the side if £480 is too high, it was the lowest I could get. Now the surprise came recently when I sold the 1000ss and I was thinking to either get a M796 or an R6. I was tempted about the latter but scared to think about the premium. I check on comparison websites and I was getting around £400 for M796 and £1000 for the R6. I found used M796 and R6 that I could purchase within my budget and with registration number in hand, I decided to give CN a call to see how deep the pain would be. The M796 came to £460 TP (lower than the 1000ss although the M796 is more powerful and lighter) and the R6 came at £420. I was ecstatic to hear about the R6 quote and that made me decide to go for that bike as I always wanted to have that bike. Just my 2p on this
  4. Hi Everybody After a few years not owning a Yamaha, I am back reunited with Y and loving it. As you can see from the title, I have a few riding years on me and the subsequent falls/scars (almost 30 years on bikes/quads and 8 different operations). My first Yamaha was a XT600 for my 18th birthday and it was exhilarating and enjoyable. That was back to the time when you got the full driving licence with just passing an exam and insurers were more benign with young riders. From there, different bikes and quad followed as you can see in my signature. I was biten by the Ducati thrill (twice) and when I recently sold my 1000SS, I thought what could be my next bike. Someone I know was willing to sell a Ducati M796 and I was tempted, but deep in my soul, I was feeling the need for the adrenaline rush that I experienced a few years ago when I rented an R6. Good news is that as you grow older, insurers understand that we are no longer tyre kickers but just people enjoying the pleasure of riding a bike and I was surprised to be quoted less for a premium on R6 compared with the M796 or my previous 1000ss. Yes, you can call it a mid-life crisis (I do not care, it is probably what it is) but I went for a blue R6 from 2006 and I love it. Looking forward to see you around Joan PS I grew up in Barcelona and Joan is a guy's name, in case anyone think I am a girl, I am not. I guess my image avatar does not help, but I also like cats, hence the image.
