  1. The part number for my radiator fan is 5VX-12405-00 and the part number for the earlier silver frame radiator fan is 5Vx 12461-00- does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Thanks
  2. Does anyone know which other years radiator fill fit my FZ6S2 2009 bike- will the earlier years silver frame fans fit my black frame bike? Looking for a replacement on Ebay and need to get the correct one Cheers
  3. Yep- the motomatrix.co.uk virgin second hand virgin ECU worked a treat and the bike is running again.... but the roiginal reason I took it in the shop- the radiator fan is buggered as I thought- still shouldnt need it this side of next spring!
  4. Been on holiday and found the ECU on MY floor instead of them delivering direct to the bike shop as I asked. Took it in this afternoon and he will try it later today or tomorrow and see if it works. I am hopeful that this will be a £170 (plus labour) fix rather than a £600 fix Probably riding my sons Blackbird or CB1300 on Friday unless mine is back together by then
  5. I am on holiday for a week now and it should either be fixed by the time I get back or the 'virgin' ECU didnt work- I am hopeful! Cheers Airhead
  6. Sorry for the poor picture but you get the idea.... green stuff in the plug which I thought should be waterproof as it is such an essential piece of the bike and is situated under the tank and behind the air box
  7. Nice thought Airhead but I hink not- this is sealed giblets with pins on the end... or not any more as the case may be- I am assuming that there is nothing can be done without dismantling with a hammer.... Come to think of it - I might try that when I get it home- it might make me feel better
  8. Salutary tale for FZ6S2 owners- my bike failed to start on its third birthday while it was in the garage having the radiator fan checked, The mechanic was attempting to use the engineers codes to get the radaitor fan to run but the bike wouldnt even start let alone let him into the back door. He unplugged the ECU from the loom and found that at least four of the ECU pins stayed in the loom plug and there was obvious signs of corrosion inside the plug. Dont know if you are familiar with the ECU position- I wasnt - Under the tank behind the air box but exposed to a hole to the back mudguard area where the top end of the rear suspension unit is- should be fairly protected but obviously not. I have never power washed the bike and have had it from nearly new. First estimate of cost was £2000 for a new OEM ECU plus a complete lock set and new red key and seriously considered scrapping the bike for parts to make money for a replacement (Honda maybe?) I asked Yamaha if they could help with the cost as I did not feel that this was reasonable but after nearly a month with very little contact from them they basically told me to go forth ........ Only help they gave me was that an OEM ECU from a Yamaha dealer is 'virgin' and can be coded to the red key that came with your bike. Contacted my local Yamaha dealer and found that with the VAT it would be £600- better than £2000 but this is a 3 year old bike for heavens sake! Tried Yamaha again to see if they could assist with the cost but no. £600 is a lot to find plus the labour on diagnosis etc so I looked for other alternatives. On Ebay I found a company called Motomatrix.co.uk who can chip second hand ECU's off scrap bikes presumably and make them 'virgin' for £170 I have ordered one and it should be with my mechanic next week but it is guaranteed to work and just plug in and start the bike with a full battery with your red key and it will code itself to your red key- at least that is the theory- what have I got to lose? So- moral of the story- I guess the Yamaha loom plugs need to be cleaned and protected from corrosion even though it doesnt say that in the owners manual and must include plugs and electrical equipment hidden away in places I had never hoped to see on my bike Really pissed off with Yamaha's attitude to customer service , lack of response to emails and lack of compassion when this appears to be a design fault not a users error or lack of scheduled maintenance.... what do you think?

    worth the effort

Usually is if you have a query but this site is a little slow in responding
  10. I think I was told to expect new suspension units between 15-20k deopending how you ride and your (combined) weight.

    ride outs?

Bit far I am afraid- I am in Wales Its a bit quiet in here isnt it
  12. I dropped my Fazer too,,,, beleive me that isnt easy to lift off the ground either
  13. I tried the underseat fazer when it first came out and it was a nice bike. Bit buzzy but handled well I then went and brought a 2001 on price and the fact that I liked the colour scheme.... oh and it went like a dream and handled brilliantly. My opinion is- buy the older MkI and II version up to 2003 Ask on http://www.foc-u.co.uk/new/news.php the unofficial Fazer site where everybody rides a Fazer of one sort or another This is my Fazer, There are many like it but this one is mine. Without my Fazer I am useless. Without me, my Fazer is useless.... apologies to full metal jacket.

    End of the dream

I came off mine a few weeks ago but luckily wasnt hurt- all my own fault. Slowly riding round a slip road I hit gravel and down I went. If I had been riding hard I wouldnt have been in the middle of the lane where the shit was Bike and me are back on the road but it also takes a bit of time to stop thinking and get back on with riding
  17. My friend came over from America and hired an 06 R6 in red and white. he knew how to handle a fst bike and it blew him away. I just sat on it and got back ache
  18. Yep the yellow black one as mentioned above is the type I meant. It is the same as my 2001 bike but with the later R1 fairing. A good all round bike. I did 1500 miles in five days leaving Wales touring Scotland and back home again- didnt have any back or bum problems although my mate on the R1 Tank size is another thought if you are touring - 22 litres in the later Fazers means around 170-180 miles /tank As for other bikes- well you are on the Yamaha bike site so the tendency will be for Yamaha owners to be replying to you. try blue2bikes or the MCN bike site for other opinions As for other bikes. My last bike (and first big one) was a CBR6- a great all rounder- spares from everywhere and an easy bike to ride slow and move on with- much like the Fazer but with more wrist ache. My brother in law just passed his direct access and borught a Blade I have to say I find the Fazer ideal for everything. I have exceeded the speed limit a little bit and I have ridden slowly like at the moment I am doing my IAM course and have to stick strictly to speed limts. My mate on an RSV is having physiotherapy It is reliable and as a lowly 600 can keep up with litre bikes until you hit an open straight road- but even then you wont be so far behind your tea will be cold when you catch them up. Pretty much any bike will be better than our skills and will allow you to grow until you need a bigger or better bike or are happy using all its power and handling. Dont be put off buying a 600 as a new biker- as long as you can afford to insure it. You will learn how to ride by practice not by wringing its neck and you can grow your skills as your time in the saddle and hopefully further training increase your skills. Bikesafe is a good £85 investment for two days with plod but probably a better bet is IAM course- also £85 but as long as it takes to reach the standard for the test and then 10% off your insurance!
  19. Logged in yesterday to the site and having a look round. I have a 2001 FZS6 in the best red/black/silver colour scheme. and enjoying the Welsh roads Bike was immaculate until I hit gravel a few weeks ago but she is back to full fettle now. Scotland again in five weeks and looking forward to 1500 miles in five days touring the second best roads in the country- well the WEelsh ones are the best of course My bike and my lads Fazer thou

    End of the dream

Sorry to hear that.. did you speak sternly to white van man and expalin what his mirrors and a shoulder check are for
  21. I have a 2001 FZS6 and that is a fine bike to ride. I have heard that the later fuel injected bike takes more revving to get the peak power out of it where the older (up to 2003) has carbs and is as gentle as a wolf in sheeps clothing when you want it to be. As a newby- and meaning no disrespect to your abilities maybe an older one to start with and see how you get on- cheper to buy and repair-loads of spares on Ebay and a great all round bike for half the price of a new one. Insurance would be cheaper too! There would be little depreciation with say a 2003 bike if you didnt like it or wanted to trade up at a later date. I guess any Fazer is a good bike to grow with and according to bike magazine the FZ6 is about the most popular bike in Europe for sales so it must be pretty good Do you want underseat exhausts and an 07 registration or a sleek 03 bike with fox eye lights? either bike is a good bet
