  1. Well I just noticed there's a slight exhaust leak right at where the exhaust piping meets the head. Would that be causing the clicking sound you think? And ill upload the video in a few minutes for you guys. Any suggestions on the clutch cable thing? Let me know because I'm about to head to the bike shop for the correct air filter and would like to get it all in one stop!
  2. ok so that solves the issue of locating the oil pump and reservoir. I'm going to a bike shop later this afternoon to get an air filter that fits the carb. Also I was going to take a video of the bike running so you guys could hear the clicking sound and possibly help me identify it. There's another clicking sound that stops whenever the clutch lever is applied too. Does that mean the clutch cable needs replacing or is it something down in the clutch itself? Also it does have a US Forestry approved spark arrestor and I'm guessing a baffle although she's still loud as all hell On another side note, I was taking it around the neighborhood to see how she was running and already had 2 people ask if I'd sell it lol.
  3. Ah I didnt see he said the oil tank. Yeah it was the lucas small bottles made for mixing and I followed their chart on the back to make sure it was 40:1. 1 little 2.3oz(i think?) bottle was for 1 gallon to make 40:1 so I bought a 2 gal tank and mixed 2 bottles with 2 gallons of gas. Honestly I think the bike sounds great and pulls like a beast but I do live in a suburban area so unless I can quite it down a little I might have to stick to daytime riding. How much power would I lose from repacking and putting a silencer on it? I'm not really trying to get the max HP and race it or anything so I'm not concerned with a slight loss. In order to pull the top end do I just need to remove the spark plug and the 4 bolts at the top of the head? Sorry for the million and a half questions lol
  4. Couldn't forget this one. This was Atlas(my dog) with Ares(1 of 4 pups of the litter, all males of course, that looked almost indentical to his dad). Talk about the perfect chick magnet when I walked them both together at the same time
  5. Haha the oil company is pretty small and based out of west texas. Also it turns out the bike isn't a DT175 but actually the IT175 instead!! And yeah my pit is a little badass. I posted a picture of him below. I think he's around 93 lbs at 3 years old now.
  6. Yeah it's idling and running well but I think it has some piston slap going on because I hear a rev-consistent clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from the head area. Also like someone else said, the oil pump would've been attached to the airbox which was gone when I got the bike sadly. Also while the front fender is in good condition, the rear appears to have been cut in half or so and is cracked pretty badly. The tank on the other hand is in great shape. I put in 93 octane fuel and 2 bottles of Lucas 2-stroke oil in a 2 gallon gas can and mixed it and poured that in. Also added about 200 mL of Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil to the oil sump(couldn't break the oil drain bolt myself and didn't want to break it) and she started right up on the first kick. I'm gonna have to get quieter exhaust though because the stock pipe is LOUD!! I really appreciate all the feedback and input too guys!
  7. Awesome let me go swap that out jow. Any thoughts on where I could find the oil pump? Would like to get her back to stock as possible! I think I found my new addiction
  8. Ok so the Valvoline stuff I should swap out? I was originally looking at Mobil 1 10w-40 but it was 4 stroke so I wasn't sure to get it or not
  9. I'm confused now because I'm here at the store but don't see anything besides a basic Valvoline stuff for 2 strokes but that has a blending guide so I'm thinking it's not far the engine itself. Am I wrong there?
  10. I got Lucas 2 cycle for the gas tank and Valvoline multi-purpose 2-cycle engine oil that says tc-w3? Says it's for motorcycles though. Is that right?
  11. Don't see an oil pump or tank at all on it? Pretty sure it was removed. So is that a yes on 10w-30 in the sump and 2-stroke high grade in the gas tank for now though? Ready to start draining the oil over here!
  12. After looking at the pictures I'd definitely have to agree it looks more like an IT175. Is that a more rare bike or something? Let me go write down the vin number. And so to be sure, I'd use 40:1 in the gas tank as the mixture(I'll get an oil pump later if possible), and a high-grade 10W-30 oil in the engine block itself? Also any suggestions on what size air filter I'd need for the carb? I got a uni 42mm but it's too small and appears to be the size of the opening on the carb exactly?
  13. Intro post made!! Also Airhead if you don't mind I've got like a million and a half questions for you about parts for yours. It appears they cut off that back metal piece where the rear blinkers went and the rear fender is pretty trashed too but I've got a friend who owns an automotive part "dipping" shop that will do the entire bike(frame, plastics, wheels) for $100 in any color in any finish!
  14. Just joined yamaha club after looking into some good sites with active members in older bikes. A friend recently sold me his 1978 Yamaha DT175 that needed a throttle cable and some TLC. Turns out he didnt put the slide on the carb correctly so it was stuck open and ruined the throttle cable somewhere along the lines. Anyways I got it up and running yesterday and have spent most of last night and this morning watching videos, reading guides, and learning what I can about my new toy. Here's a little about myself though. I'm 26, from Dallas, TX. I bartend downtown and work for my family's oil company here and there. I've owned lots of various vehicles and have experience with tools and basic mechanics although I've never owned a motorcycle before. Also I've got a 3 year old pitbull that's a red-nose brindle male who's a little badass and drive a 2001 Cadillac Deville when the weather is bad
