  1. Hi everyone, I have a 1978 DT250 all original. About 10 years ago it ran fine but the carb started leaking gas. I did some work for a motorcycle mechanics...on his home..and traded for him to rebuild the carb. He did and it's been in a baggie till now. My boy is now old enough and wants to get the bike back running. I installed the carb but cant get it to start.....I don't believe it's getting fuel. I sprayed starting fluid into the air box and it ran at about 8000 rpms for 10 seconds or so. Is there something to do to get a rebuilt carb flowing gas again? I flushed the tank and fuel line and put in fresh gas before I hooked up rebuilt carb. Thanks for any ideas/help. My boy is chomping to ride this thing. I'll post pictures soon....it's all original. Lee
  2. Thanks for the ideas gentlemen. I'll post this in another area too.
  3. Hey guys. Came to your forums for help if possible. I have a Yamaha 1978 DT 250 that I bought new in 1978...lol. Still all original. I haven't used it for quite a few years and just got it out and cleaned it up for my boy. About 15 years ago it ran good....then the carb started leaking gas....but it ran. I did some work for someone who was a professional motorcycle mechanic and traded for him to rebuild my carb. Well he did and it's been in a plastic bag all these years. I put the carb on today....drained the dirty gas and flushed the tank and tried to start it. It wouldn't go....So I took the air filter out and put starter fluid in....and it ran at high rpm's for a short time. Is there a secret or method of getting the gas into the carburetor and getting it going again....I know it's not getting gas. The fuel line from the tank to the carb is clear. Appreciate any help on startup procedure. Thanks, Lee My boy is chomping to get this thing going again.
