  1. Neglected to mention I put some gun gum on that side gasket as it kept falling out while getting exhaust in place. Maybe that causing issues.
  2. Bout 190 pounds. But don`t let all that nice chrome fool you. I've noticed the welding don`t look that good. Anyway after some struggling as the rear mounts are not slotted like the originals (had to drill holes just to get the bolt to go through). Fitted them today but disappointed as its blowing out one cylinder. I think they putting lotta stress on cylinder bolts due to lack of movement. Although that cylinder does have a suspect stud which unscrewed itself during the rebuild, I just tightened it back in. So back to the drawing board..damn..was hoping to take it for a spin to test the new pipes.
  3. Although I`m a stickler for original..couldn`t take it anymore and decided to get the RD going faster (I need this bike to do power wheelies). I`m told jetting does not have to be changed so just gonna bolt them on and see how she goes. These are locally made Bosson exhausts..made just 12km from my house. They reckon 20-30% more power.
  4. Found new 2stroke bunch to ride with..all between 40 and 50 yrs old and these guys really wind these things up thru mountain twisties. I rather bring up the rear of this lot. (I`m next to guy with white shirt who owns the black Aprilia 125) Sigh..when is my RD gonna look like this..must get it painted Beautiful Aprilia 125 Sorry its a Honda..but nice bikes the NSR`s. Note the TZR`s kickstart lever..broke off so we had to push start him all day...was a good laugh(my RD in the background)
  5. Try some quickstart fluid into intake or some fuel straight into spark plug hole. If spark is good and timing ok then you should get something, which would point to a fueling problem.
  6. Thought this looks pretty good. Something to do with all those old parts instead of binning them. Must be hell of a lotta tack welding on those chains.
  7. Sorry bout crap pics..must get a better camera.
  8. Remember this is first time I`m opening an engine so been going carefully, but stripping going ok so far. I can see its going to be fun getting all this back in place. Any opinions on how the parts are looking? To my inexperienced eye piston and rings actually look ok but bad pitting in the cylinder towards the top (result of water entry I would think).
  9. Ah the classic orange peel..stuff of nightmares. Got that on all my projects so far..thats why I will NOT paint the RD.
  10. He just took it down the road..had my share of that as a teenager but much more observant now. I`d rather die from road rash than heat stroke. Gets too damn hot here..getting nice now though. Early start tomorrow morning to ride with some "smokers"..so don't worry, will be in full kit.
  11. Nice one Tommy..can`t be too many of these XT`s around. Can`t believe you have so many convertible cars..thought it rains there all the time.
  12. I know that feeling Slice..go try an unrestricted ZX14..yours is a lot more comfortable I`m sure. My son taking it for a spin.
  13. So decided to get bit stuck in and see if I can get this bike going. Bought this bike to use as a learning curve to repair a 4stroke engine. Engine out today. Hopefully talking set of rings and a hone. Will flush with some diesel for water ingress.
  14. Chlorine in the cooling system..don`t think that's a good idea.
  15. Hilarious how u guys just strip a bike in the street. Here all the bits will be stolen before you turn your back.
  16. Bike was returned today with a new radiator cap. Will see how it goes. (better bring some water once in the bush)
  17. Took it for a spin today and it decided to throw out its coolant. Couldn`t see see any hoses off so made sure radiator was full of water and rode it again with no further problems. Bike was serviced by the bike sales place but maybe coolant was overfilled. After my son complained they picked it up today to have a look.
  18. My son decided to get himself an offroader..450 with FMF pipe..sounds the business. Thought my XT had power until I rode this thing.
  19. That looks good for some nice long distance riding..enjoy!!
  20. Lol..We`ve pretty much had a bellyful of blue sky Airhead, after 4 months with only 1 and half days rain..Cape Town as dry as a martini at the moment. I`m sure our crap weather will be arriving shortly.
  21. Club got together again today..not on track as superbikes and cars were doing their thing..just a showing of the bikes to the public. How about this 1976 RD400?
  22. Crap..I suppose its one of the advantages of Africa..powers that be can`t seem to enforce anything so criminals have field day here.
  23. Refuse to pay like we do here..they can`t arrest everyone and their admin will become a nightmare.
