  1. getting spark with the electric start but when kicked over i got nothing. any suggestions? the armature looks a bit gunked up so i was gonna try to clean that but i cant seem to figure out how to get the bolt out of the end of the shaft to access it. hopefully the armature isnt screwed all together cause from other posts ive gathered that it seems to be a pain to remove and if necessary acquire a new one.
  2. well theres some welcome news. im a newbie to bikes. that's my very first one. ive signed up for a learners class in may. silly me.

http://youtu.be/-FqLPrxh4lM ill try to keep this updated as i go through the project. ive already posted a few questions ill try to keep all of that contained here now. so anyone who might want to help me out or follow along will have an easier time doing so. and also so im not blowing up the board.
  4. ">http:// ">http:// so one pic is the view from the side and the other is from front to back. i assumed the nut would slide in there an the bolt would come in from the top like i have it. the nut was way to big though. probably like 3/32 too big.
  5. are there any common problems that lead to a bike not shifting at all? has anyone else had this problem that could tell me where to start looking? i hope someone can tell me im not gonna have to go into the transmission. http://youtu.be/rLpcDBSoSjU
  6. the posts have got a t shaped hole from front to back and a round hole on top. i thought maybe the nuts inserted into the t shaped hole but the nuts were way to big. i used a little pressure and just tapped the top holes with the screws. hopefully that will work long term. might have been the wrong hardware.?
  7. anyone ever use HIMURA batteries? im trying to put one in my cs5 but i cant figure out how to fasten the cables to the battery. it came with two nuts and bolts that in no way shape or form attach to the posts. is there some kind of trick here?
  8. sunshine hunter found me a nice youtube video on the procedure.
  9. so yeah i saw that but it doesn't actually tell/show how to move the points. do i have to adjust the timing in order to adjust the gap in the points?
  10. nice bike! i just got one myself. lots of useful information here. can anyone help me out with the procedure for adjusting the points on one of these bikes? also, you don't seem to have an oil tank on your bike. how are you mixing the oil and gas? ratio? thanks
  11. i dont know the the procedure to adjust the points. (which screws to turn) the manual i have aren't very helpful in that regard. they are good for trouble shooting but ive never touched points on a motorcycle before. any recommendations on a different manual? as far as that list goes, this is what ive got: -battery -clean the tank/ find a good mix ratio for oil and gas -clean the carbs -find out why im not gettin spark(my guess is the points) -adjust the points what do you think?
  12. ive heard the oil pump can be unreliable and the guy before me seems to have been premixing as well. i just dont want to risk seizing the motor. as for service manuals ive got the clymer manual for 90-200cc twins from 66-77 and two yamaha cs5 service manuals.(one is for sale if anyone is looking) i cant seem to find the mix spec though. i think because its normally done by the pump.
