  1. Just thought I'd share some part numbers in-case it might help anyone who searches. I'm rebuilding some BS36 carbs off a friend's XJ900 (88) and am working in Spain. Getting any Yamaha parts has proven to be a nightmare but I eventually managed to track down what I needed from a Suzuki main dealer - it took loads of cross referencing and I wasn't sure what would turn up once the dealer got the part numbers in that I'd asked for (not speaking Spanish doesn't help!) however was pleasantly surprised tonight to go and pick up all the bits I was needing. So I got the butterfly shaft seals (8 pieces) - 13651-51010 idle screw O-rings - 13295-29900 A fuel gauze from on top of the float valve jet - 13376-19F00 A new rubber bung for covering the idle mixture screw - 13357-44080 and 1 x random tiny brass part with a little hole - 13281-05A00 (Google want's me to believe it's an alternator bearing but I don't!!) Probably not much use to most folk but hopefully the above can save someone in the future the few hours it took me to get the correct numbers. Of course note that these are SUZUKI part numbers - not Yamaha.
  2. Hi again and thanks for the reply, I keep checking CMNSL but it always shows as not available though the price for both parts is shown. I'll do some more calling round again of the people you recommended. I was hoping someone might be able to check the dimensions of theirs but I'll continue the search for an off the shelf part also.
  3. Hi Drewpy, I was looking at items 37 &38 on the CMNSL website. Unfortunately the part numbers given aren't available through my local yamaha dealers and I've not turned anything up online yet either. I was planning to make the spacer if I couldn't find one so hoped someone might be able to give me the dimensions. If so and anyone else needs one I'll try and knock a few up at the same time from some stainless and make them available for the cost of postage on this forum. Cheers, Stan.
  4. Hi all, I tried to search the forum for this but didn't see anything. I've got a '79 model rear drum 250 and it looks like there should be a spacer on the nearside rear spindle between the wheel bearing and swing arm but mine didn't have one when I bought it. Does anyone know the dimensions or have a source for these? Any help appreciated. Looking at the drawings it also looks like a dust cover is missing but this is something I can probably live without for the time being. Cheers guys.
  5. Thanks for the heads up guys, I'll ask first next time!!
  6. Hi Drewpy, I'm planning a central stripe on my tank for the future too, is yours painted or is it a decal? I want to paint mine but not sure if you'll be able to feel it through the clear. Great looking bike by the way, plenty of inspiration for the direction a bike in the condition mine is could go; months of fettling to be done before I need to worry about keeping up with the Jones' though! Maybe I need a few more years of bikefoolery under my belt before I try for a finish as acomplished as you have managed.
  7. ps, found the pictured christmas tree in one float bowl, is this likely to have blocked one of the jets or passages
  8. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has attempted to repair holed/leaking carb floats with epoxy (araldite) and the success or otherwise if so? I've tried but yet to put them back on the bike for a test. Cheers
  9. I had a generic Givi one on mine and never had any problem, I'd recommend the ones that come with a fixed base and then you can just unclip the box when you don't want it on.
  10. I fitted a braided line to my XV535S, I got it made at Brakes International - maybe they have a branch near you. Just took in my original brake line and they made it there and then to the exact pattern, only took about 30mins and fitted perfectly. Cost about £15 if I remember rightly. They also had all the different colour sleeves and ends.
  11. Thanks for the offer Drewpy, I'm sure there will be a few bits and bobs I need and you're not far away. Like I said once I'm home I should be mooching around on here every couple of days so I'll drop you a line as and when. Hopefully I'll have something to add on here in return, if anyone has any specific questions they think I'll encounter during the rebuild just drop me a line and I'll try to get a guide together of somesort or a few helpful pictures
  12. Thanks for the welcomes guys. Drewpy, I'm in the North East of Manchester - Rochdale/Oldham area, I take it you are somewhere thereabouts too?
  13. Hi all, I signed up for the forum a while ago but thought it was about time I introduced myself. I recently swapped my '97 XV535S for an '81 XS250 and it seems I've got my work cut out for me. I've had a good look round the bike and am thinking that I need to get it running now after buying it with loads of bits missing and generally in unknown condition. Once it's had a run and I know it's salvegable then it's back to pieces for more cosmetic work and titivation - I've even got a colour scheme picked out, getting a bit ahead of myself there eh? I guess I'll have lots of questions for everyone whilst I undertake this project but I'll also try and get some pictures and guides up for things that I encounter that might help others on here. A bit about me; I'm a 34 year old Superyacht engineer and have been in overalls with a spanner of one kind or another in my hand for the last 18 years. I don't have a great deal of experience with small engines but seem to muddle my way through most of the time, if anyone's got any diesel 2 stroke questions though (70s era Sulzer especially) then drop me a line. My last bike was resprayed and generally tinkered with so I'm happy with paintwork etc and thought it was time for more of a nuts and bolts project, which is how I come to buy the XS for the princely sum of £237. I'm trying to keep track of my expendature so maybe in a few months I'll put together a comprehensive post about the time and cost of taking on a project like this, hopefully it will be more encouraging than off-putting as I'm hoping to keep things sensible. I've already got a few pics of various parts in bits so once I'm home I'll begin posting from time to time. Well, that's a little bit about me so I guess I'll be around. Trodd69
  14. It's the fine needle point that's snapped so a bit small for an easy out. I can't get to the back of the screw hole and was wondering if anyone had experience of this particular carb. I've heard they're a bit of a pig to get right so was hoping someone who'd encountered this problem before could pass on some tips. I'll post some pictures once I've figured out how to get them up on the forum.
  15. Hi all, I'm after some advice after buying a project XS250 (1981). I've cleaned all the carbs up and the only fault I've found is one snapped pilot screw which I can't really see how to rectify. Does anyone have any experience of this? I was hoping to try and run the bike this week but I reckon that's out of the question now
