  1. Alright DirtyDT, Ive ordered a new air filter and Im enquiring about a new choke lead on eBay. Until I receive them I probably wont be on here for a couple of days! I thought I might try to tune the carburettor since I dont have any idea of the screw turns/ adjustment I was going to ask you if these bikes really take a lot of detail to work? I mean the engine is running how much more do you need? Is it right down to specific detail on the pilot jet/air screw and idle screw or if they were roughly att he right setting would it not hopefully work!? Anyway Cheers for your help!
  2. I just had it running in the garage there and I noted a few things with it running: - The Spark Plug was Black when I removed it today this is only from kickstarting twice, Im not sure if this is normal? - Also you were talking about the choke, the actual choke lead, the connection between the carb and the head of the lead is very worn, to the point where it is difficult to actually seat it within the carburettor. How badly does this affect the carbs performance? Cheers Again!
  3. Its not a new filter, when I cleaned it it was starting to tear but I didnt think it would disrupt the flow to much? Would the choke have to be pulled for this to happen? Yeah, I took apart the carb prior to this about 3/4 years ago when I hadnt a clue about bikes and never took note of the settings! As of recently I have changed the idling screw, the float height had to be changed too because there wasnt enough fuel going into the carb. Everything else is more or less set between 1-2 screw turns out. The bars aren't straight when the wheel points forward, which sounds like by what your saying its twisted probably from sitting for the past 4 years!
  4. Ok Gentlemen, I have taken heed of your information and more ground has been gained! I took out the carb and cleaned it again, I already had new fuel in the system, replaced the air filter and blow and behold it would not start! BUT from utterly nothing, I kicked it one last time and my hand slipped and opened the throttle about 10mm and it started straight away! I fiddled with the idling screw and now not only does it start but it sits there purring away to its hearts content! (This is straight from a kickstart it goes into idling) Its now idling but sometimes when I open the throttle it cuts out and other times it actually revs away, so I'm not particularly sure what this means? I am very keen on taking it out for a ride but I have noticed the front wheel is not perpendicular to the handlebars, wondering if anyone could give me any advice on adjusting it? Absolutely delighted though! Cheers for your help!
  5. We have progress! The piston is definitely moving, I managed to get the engine running but its not idling, so I was continuously revving it. As for the pressure when I use kickstart Im not too convinced I can near enough hold my finger on it! Fuel did come out of the tap whilst it was in reserve, I never had any WD40 but I used some Easy Start spray. Before the engine started the first time, there was a series of pops when I was kicking it? Im not sure what that is? All in all the engine started working which is absolutely fantastic! although Im not sure its too healthy, when I held the throttle at a set position the revs weren't consistent cutting off and came back continuously, it heated up really quickly as well.
  6. Here they are.. Kickstarting, Spark Plug Earthing, Electric Start,
  7. Cheers for the reply DirtyDT, Heres what Ive got, 1) There was a spark when I kicked the bike over, the colour of it was white and it was just a small one definately not "fat". 2) Just for the sake of findings I carried out number 2, there was just the same the exhaust rumbling away but no start. 3) I did as you said for three took it out clean and dried it then replaced it kicked the bike over a few more times and the plug was clean when I removed it, no oil, no petrol, just dry. Ive taken some videos of kicking the bike over, the spark plug earthing and the actual noise from the electric start (but that can wait Im only really worried about actually getting the thing to run when Im kicking it) which are just uploading to YouTube so ill post the 3 links in here when theyre up. Again thanks for your help!
  8. Hi Guys, A small update from last time couple of months on the TTR125. And a couple queries! Cleaned and rebuilt the carburettor, new oil, new petrol, cleaned the air filter, new spark plug.. Finally got her running! A Matter of days after it was running the electric starter stopped working, the clicking with full battery charge all the that I needed. So Im about 75% certain the starter has packed in. Anyone know any methods for testing these things? Anyway I put it to a "mechanic" I use that term loosely.. who let the bike rott in his garage for 6 weeks which did not help matters. So here I am 2 days ago I got the bike back and have decided to pour many hours of work into solving the problem. With the carb rebuilt, floats set to allow enough fuel into the bowl, all completely clean, new fuel, new oil, no electric start now, Ive removed the air filter to just let air flow in, I am trying to kick this M*therf*c*er over and will it start will it heck! My question is I have been scanning the internet and I think it may be the valves? Does anyone have any experience with checking them? I can only see it being an internal problem especially if the carburettor has been completely rebuilt, kicking the engine you just get the exhaust rumbling away but no ignition. Any help from anyone or hints on things I have missed is much appreciated! Cheers Again
  9. Ah right... haha aye I meant bumpstart! Ill try it just now
  10. Ive been looking to upgrade to a larger bike for the past month now and Im seeing that it is an expensive business. Im thinking if Im going to go out and spend some serious money why not go for a license aswell. So far the 2013 Yamaha WR125R has caught my eye, Im 19 at the moment and going by law (I think) I could learn to ride up to 350cc bikes but I thought hey why not just start low see how I get on. Ive heard that you can de restrict these 125s aswell? But again Im new to the scene and eager to find out more. Any Information would be appreciated! Cheers, John
  11. Cheers for the reply.. Ill try kickstarting it tomorrow or on Friday, you kick it and it sometimes start chuggging away and cuts out, then it doesnt do anything like in the video. Not sure whats going on with the electrics just up and ran away all of a sudden. Would the decompressor lever be on the handlebars? There isnt one there :S
  12. Electric Start Problem: Kick Start Problem:
  13. Ok another new problem query, to save the battery for the moment I have been using jumpers. Now today after previously using the jumpers successfully to get the bike going, the electric start has just completely changed. The fact that when I turn on the jump start and ignition the bike just makes a continual long screetching noise, I dont even have to push the electric start, no clicks or anything. Furthermore when I attempted to kickstart the bike it seems as if it doesnt want to go, either clanking or I kick down and it then slowly guides my foot down. Fresh problems everywhere I get it started then another problem crops up! I took some videos Ill try post up later if they ever come on!
  14. Here It is Gentlemen, after 7 long years ITS ALIVE!! haha.. with plenty of unsolved problems to go with ha I have noticed when I start the bike and pull the throttle it sometimes reacts at intervals or even when your going along in any gear at the same speed the throttle stops reacting, has anyone encountered this problem before?
  15. Im afraid so haha Can we have the 3 points now? Do anything to put Dundee back down! Ah the 26th was a late Christmas present for some Take a step in an even worse direction Im a Rangers fan aswell! Do you know the sort of prices these TTRs can go for nowadays? Im curious about a trade in to see how far the budget would have to be stretched haha
  16. Ah right Cheers, Im in Dingwall, its the original carburettor! Cleaned it yesterday and it looks split new! Just the Jets are giving me jip, I ordered a couple new parts to go in aswell, forgot to post but the previous rider must had one spin on it and obviously just flipped and snapped the back end clean off! I recon the dealer did it haha Ordered a new one though so itll be back to ship shape!
  17. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.557498030927503.131170.100000019338739&type=1 . I dunno if you guys can get on there but thats my facebook album for the photos I just took today, Youll see the carburettor is missing Im still cleaning the Pilot Jet and I havent washed it down yet only the above has been sorted. Never felt better taking the bike out and getting her going today hasnt been going since 2006!! Ive seen that YZs are renowned for being reliable no matter what year but obviously the newer the better! I dont really know where to start for valuations of bikes just a rough idea of the kind off things you look for towards a valuation.
  18. I see, Ill work on it, I have the bike completely stripped right now and Ive got new body parts coming over the next week and I think the pilot jet will need replaced too so the bike can run properly. Are they pretty pricey moving up to bigger bikes I'd really like a YZ125 preferably second hand, cannot bear moving away from Yamaha haha
  19. Thats Magic its idling and everything now, Pilot Jet is still dodgy but I know now where the problem lies! Do you know roughly what the value of these bikes are now a days? Far outgrown this bike needing a bigger one.
  20. Cheers Ken, I think the Pilot Jet is the problem, I cant see right the way through it. The multiple holes at the top are all right though. Do you know if its safe to just go with a pin through them to unclog them? It seems pretty tough. I have carb cleaner aswell but it doesn't seem to be budging or is a new one on the cards?
  21. Finally got down to the nitty gritty today and decided it was time to pull out my Yamaha and restore it to its former glory; but there is always a hiccup! It has been sitting since late 2006 and to my surprise wasn't in too bad a condition. Though It still wouldn't start. I tried all off the following; - Cleaned the spark arrester. - Cleaned & Lubed the Air filter. - Stripped and Cleaned the Carb. - Cleaned & Lubed the Chain. - Replaced the oil with Yamalube Full Synthetic. - Replaced the Fuel tank with Unleaded. - Charged and checked the charge of the battery which is ok. The electric start is working it turns over the engine, fuel sits in the bottom of the carb although the engine is turning over it proceeds into a really harsh metal clanking noise. I pulled out some spray petrol and sprayed it into the back of the carb and the thing shoots up without a hitch the engine runs this way which makes me think its as if the fuel inside the carburettor isn't doing anything. If anyone has any idea whats going on it would be a big help! Cheers, John
