  1. Hi everyone, The bike is failing to start after being sat for a long time. Spark plugs have been replaced but am now thinking that the carb has gunked up. I don't have a great amount of experience with working on bikes, so would greatly appreciate some advice on how to remove the carb. If you follow this link, I've taken pictures of the manual which shows you which bits to take off matched with the parts it is on my bike. I wasn't 100% sure if the parts I'd found on the bike matches those on the manual. http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/alex_evans1/library/?page=1 If you guys could take a quick look at the pictures to see if I've matched them up okay that would be great, also a general guide if anyone knows it would be awesome too. Thanks Alex

Merry New Year and Happy riding!
  3. Thank you so much for all of that information and advice. I will start going through this process and will let everyone know how I get on and what the result is
  4. Name: Yamaha XT125R (2008) Date Added: 04 January 2013 - 02:33 PM Owner: ktm301p Short Description: I put it through it's paces, given that it was a light trails bike. I did plenty of exploring on the trails, off road. A great bike to learn to ride on and develop the basic skills. View Vehicle
  5. Name: Yamaha WR400F (1998) Date Added: 04 January 2013 - 02:27 PM Owner: ktm301p Short Description: Recently had a full engine rebuild, all credit due to the previous owner who painstakingly rebuilt the bike, giving it plenty of new shiny bits! View Vehicle
  6. Hi all, I have already been posting and have been receiving some much appreciated advice! I recently acquired a '98 WR400F which aside from being a pig to get started, is actually a wonderful bike. Previous to that I have owned an XT125R which I put through it's paces on local trails and byways etc... Thanks Alex
  7. That is the next item I will be checking, what is this CDI you speak of?
  8. Thanks for the suggestion! When bump starting it we turned off the fuel in order to try burn of any petrol that may have been left in the line from flooding it. I haven't actually ridden the 400 yet! I had an XT before this and I've been dying to get a ride on it. I'm 6ft3 and it feels just right, I would say given your height you'd be able to ride one, just don't expect to be able to touch the floor unless you get a lowering kit. Also, it feels a heck of a lot bigger than the XT I found. Thanks again.
  9. Hi all, My WR had a full engine rebuild, but has been stood for about a year. (off the ground on a stand). When I first started it, it fired after the first 3 kicks and idled nicely until I turned it off. A few weeks later I did the same and it was a bit harder to start this time, but it eventually ran and warmed up. I tried starting it the other day, but it wouldn't go. Despite not using any throttle when kicking it, and having fuel & choke turned on, it was dripping fuel at the bottom through the tube as if it was being flooded. I then tried bumping it in second and third but still nothing, there was compression and we even got a few backfires but it wouldn't run. The fuel isn't old or contaminated so I wasn't worried about the carb having jelly in it, and I even took it down to my local Yamaha garage and asked them to change the spark plug (I don't have the special tool needed to get in there myself!). They told me after changing it, they could get the occasional spark upon kicking it, but nothing consistent. They gave me back the bike and this is where I am now. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas as to what it could be or what I can do to get it going? I'll do my best to answer questions you might have, Cheers, Alex
