  1. Nice one, still worth rectifying the points cover problem first though or it may get harder to trace once the upgrade is fitted

    Best tyres?

I normally go through at least 2 rear tyers to 1 front, if I was you I'd just change the rear for now pref for same again then change both next time round.
  3. Wow that's not good, who knows what else is missing /botched inside there I'd take Drew's advice look for a 400 motor to replace it.
  4. Check yer points are opening and closing correctly if it still has them (spark) and check your valve clearance (compression) if its been rebuilt it could be any number of things but there the 2 simple things I'd look at first. Oh and obviously while doing the points check the timing
  5. I had a terrible time bleeding my xjr rear brake till I realized the caliper has two bleed nipples but that's not going to help you if it is working till you mount it, all I can think is a twist in the line as verio has already suggested.
  6. Very sad news Dutch but glad to here you're getting on with things.
  7. Looks great, that looks like my first bike but I know it isn't, as I only had mine 12 months from new and clocked over 16000 miles on it. Those were the days, now I'm lucky if I get time to do 3000 a year.
  8. Hi lamp welcome to yoc, there's a few xs fans still on here, don't think anyone has a 360 though. If you can do a quick intro in the new members sec you'll get a much better response to any questions. People just like to know who their talking to. It would be nice to see a pic or two, oh and pretty sure you don't need another manual as the 360 wasn't in production that long can't emagine their would be any big changes, if memory serves me right Haynes covered the 250,360 & 400 all in one book
  9. Would have liked to see a little bit more of that clip
  10. Glad to see you sticking around and having some input after your warm welcome hippy, hope you get some joy finding a mechanic to sort your scoot out, their a great bunch on here once you get to know them.
  11. Ah. Come on guys where's yer Christmas spirit!! & he might be disabled, I'll give him the benifit of the doubt seeing as I'm no where near Newton le Willows Well its not that far really but I know fuck all about scooters
  12. Sorry Drew I've just posted on another thread! Trying to type and watch Guy Martin, Speed on TV.
  13. Met up with Drew today for a ride down to Matlock, we took it easy as the roads were a bit damp and I had my my son on the back, also not been out on bike since Squires as I've been away on holiday again lucky me. I've not been to Matlock before but was well impressed there are some brilliant roads around the area, (could be good place for the 2018 YOC meet if we could find a campsite). The weather improved by the time we got there. Lots of bikes out considering the weather, loads of good places to eat at really reasonable prices, I really enjoyed the day and so did my son will deffo go again next year just hope the roads are dry next time. PS got soaked on the way home but that seems to be the norm this year.
  14. If you don't have a manual get over to xs400.com pretty sure you can get one there. Really simple job to adjust clutch might be just the plates sticking a bit after it being laid up.
  15. Danny fill in your profile, if people know were you are they can offer more useful advice or even help
  16. Think this might be Drew having a little poke at me here after him pushing me up & down a garage forecourt A few years ago. I worked it out on the third attempt bye which time he was a bit hot and bothered.
  17. You could always bump start it, 2nd gear usually best give it full choke and hit her bum down on the seat as you let the clutch out to stop the back wheel skidding.
  18. Try cleaning all the terminals from battery to startermotor. Is it just starter turning or the engine ?
  19. Best if you can upgrade to electric ignition if it hasn't already been done, the only problem mine gave me was the points
  20. My advice would be to start with a new battery. Get yourself a decent one though some are just cheap crap, These are really good and well worth the extra cash http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-XS-250-SF-1979-CB12A-A-12N12A-4A-1-Motobatt-Motorcycle-Battery-Upgrade-/300663106553?hash=item4600eaebf9:g:mNsAAOSw-K9ZIzab
