    MOD1 bummer1

Strangely enough Drewpy I was quite relaxed. After doing the emergency stop and getting the speed right I thought I would breeze the avoidance maybe over confidence did me in.

Someone just said at least it was a mistake under instruction, would have been worse if out on the road on my own. Yes good luck Welshwan just take your time and don't rush it.

    MOD1 bummer1

Had my MOD1 test this morning and failed. Everything went fine until the avoidance section when i went through the traps 1 kph too slow! i was asked to try it again and went through much faster at 56 kph but clipped the cone this time! what a bummer!
  5. I have been considering fitting heated grips to my virago 750 but I can't see how to remove the chrome end caps from the bars, does anyone know how these come off?
  6. Now this is just my two penneth' I own a 1992 750 Virago and am still training for my full licence. I am 57 and have not ridden a bike since back in the 70's. I regularly ride the schools bikes Suzuki 500 and now the Kwak ER6 and have ridden the Virago off road a couple of times. I find the Virago a very sedate ride compared to the others and easier to handle even though it is pretty heavy (I am very short and light) This is my first bike but I have been training on the schools machines for around two months now. I would personally go fot it but get some training in first.
  7. Nah, a man's biscuit has to be a fig roll.
  8. If the t*ats in Brussels said we had to put our heads in the gas oven our government would do it!
  9. I have tried stopping three times so far. First one with willpower....failed, next time with a course of patches.......failed, third time with the electric cigarettes (expensive kit not the cheap ones) again I failed. I found with the electronic one it just didn't 'taste' like a real one and I had to have a real one straight after! I may try the pills from the doctor next as this is the only option left now.
  10. Thanks Airhead, I will give that a try. I have been holding onto the bike by the left bar and the rear indicator mounting and never thought of standing on the stand at the time. (makes sense as this is how I put it on the stand) I will enlist the help of a friend to start with as you suggest though. it is a pain being such a lightweight biker. Back in the seventies I never used the main stand on my bikes so have never had this problem, mind you the bikes were a LOT heavier then!
  11. Right this may sound like a dumb question but here goes as I am a novice. I have a Virago 750 which I recently bought and am still taking lessons for my full licence. I have got the hang of putting the bike on it's main stand but I am having trouble taking it off! Bear in mind that i am only 5'4" tall and weigh in at just under 8 stone! (lightweight biker that's for sure) At the moment i am getting it off the main stand by sitting on it and rocking it forward. I have tried standing to the left side of it to take it off but I am nervous about dropping it onto the right as I seem to be forcing it forward and away from me. I would hate to damage all that chrome so have any of you guys got any tips for me, thanks?
  12. Oh dear! Are we a dying breed then? Well I hope to keep mine for a few years to come yet, as long as the old frame will take it.....mine that is, not the bike.
  13. Thanks guys, at least I know there is someone on here now as I talk to myself enough at work. LOL.
  14. The bolts are the same size as the grab handle bolts on the rear so I used them. I seem to keep answering my own questions in this section, am i the only one on here then?
  15. Yes they do. I bought them anyway as they were only £25 due to being tatty. Can anyone tell me what size and thread bolts i need to mount them to the the foot peg bars? Thanks.

    mod 1 site

This morning I took a run out to the test centre for the Mod1 test as I will be doing it shortly. I was amazed at how big the area is! It must be almost three times the size of the area I have been practising on! After seeing this my confidence has been given a boost.
  17. Does anyone know if the engine bars from a 1995 virago 750 will fit a 1992 model?

    Mod 1

Well after my lesson today my instructor has decided to put me in for the mod 1. Result! i am not sure yet when it will be as the test centre is busy but looking forward to it.......and hoping I pass.
  19. No, No, it's not a 125 it's a 750! hence the reason i can't ride it yet.
  20. OK guys here she is:Beautiful isn't she?
  21. Well even though I am still training for my bike test I couldn't resist buying a bike. I was undecided on the choice of a Virago or a Dragstar so after help from some of the members of the forum I tried out both for fit. I couldn't ride them of course yet but had a sit on them and a fiddle around. My mind was made up with the Virago due to the foot pegs being better placed for me. So I did some searching and am now the proud owner of a 1992 Virago 750 with 16000 on the clock and well looked after. I paid £1850 for it and it is complete with panniers, screen, sissy bar, and even a cruise control! Best of all is i don't even have to travel far as it is about 5 miles away. (I am picking it up later this week) worst thing now is I have to put it away until i am legal to ride it. Oh well I am a patient man.

    mod 1

Great to hear that. I am still practising for mine, still getting used to a 500 suzuki at the moment.

    I have started

Well guys after taking and passing my CBT I have had a couple of lessons on the 500cc machine now and found it easier than I had expected. Being a bit of a lightweight myself (7 1/2 stone wet through) i was a bit worried about man handling the machine but it was surprisingly light and the seat was low enough for me to touch the floor with both feet. I was also a little concerned about how sensitive the throttle would be with being a more powerful machine but needn't have worried as it was pretty docile. The last bikes I rode were British ones back in the seventies which were mostly gutless and I was fearing the worst. Did a few slow manoeuvres and practice stopping and setting off without any problems. I can't wait for the next session now. sorry if this is a bit boring but I just had to tell someone being so excited about it. A kid at Christmas springs to mind.
  24. I would love to try one out but unfortunately I have only just passed my CBT and not allowed to ride a real bike yet otherwise I would. Thanks for the comments guys.
  25. No sorry guys, I don't like bobbers. I like the look of a standard Virago or either of the Dragstars classic or cruiser.
