  1. I have had one of these until someone in Golf thought it would look better perched on his car. Which finished it off. Anyway you will have a few problems getting a rear to fit and I changed mine to tubed tyres. This will give you better selection but all the usual tyes you may want will most likely not be available in the right size. I cant remember what I put on in the end but they were a vast improvement over the standard tyres. Which are just hopeless as you have found out. If I can find the paperwork that I received with the tyres I will post again and let you know. The above mentioned Metzelers would be a great deal better and you may be able to get the front one but the rear is such an odd size you will fine it difficult. For the record the tyres sizes you are looking for are. Front tyre size 3.00 x 18 Rear tyre size 3.50 x 16 Old River man
  2. Well as I ride to work every day on one I suppose I should tell you that it will not go much faster than the 55 mph you are getting. Mine is a 58 reg and current has over 15000 miles on the clock. It will do about 60 on the flat but that would be reduced in a head wind and with any sort of gradient. The mileage could well be correct there are a few around with very small mileage on them. The advice by welshwan is good change, the oil and check the air filter. The oil filter is a small oil strainer that is behind the clutch cover. On a more positive note mine has done 109 mpg over the last 2500 miles and does not use any oil. The electrics on the charging side of things have been and continue to be a pain. The only bit that is left to change is the alternator which should sort it out once and for all. So why has not been done before? Simple Yamaha want a cool £159 for new one. The tyres are OK, although I did change mine pretty soon after getting the bike. If they are original they will be chinese and in the wet will keep you awake. If you change them you will stuggle fine the rear tubeless tyre as its odd size (3.50x16 58p). I fitted tubed tyres which for me has been fine. Feel free to PM me if you or need any more. Oh yes and enjoy it, for the vertically challenged they are easy to ride and just do the job (electrics aside). Old river man

  4. Welcome to the forum. I also have the same bike and only statrted riding late summer last year. Its good bike to learn on, after the CBT just go out for a ride and take it at your own pace. I know when I started it was all early morning riding which was an advanatge as it was so quiet. This did allow me to build up some valable experience. I have now done about 4000 miles on mine, in all weathers and really enjoy it. Old River Man
  5. I am like Mrweso I am either riding into work at 04.30 or riding home later at night. I need one in work and tend to put one on so I know I have it with me. I have left it at home too many times. Does it make a difference, I have no idea. The only thing you can say is if you pass a cyclist with no lights on but just a high vis with reflective panels on it makes a difference but a bike with headlight on? However I will still wear one so her indoors is happy. Old River Man
  6. Yes I agree get Haynes and read it. Then retire to the garage or where the bike is kept. Read the Haynes again and take your time. You will find out you can do lots of things that you never expected.
  7. Right I am back home after a very long day and rding home in a storm, lighting, rain, wind and all. Just put the YBR to bed, lubed the chain and gave her a quick wipe down. Bippo I got the bulb from autobulbs on the web. I would recomend you mail them and tell them you are looking for an upgrade together with the details of what is in the bikeas standard. I know it is an improvement but its not perfect. Just dont want you to expect to much thats all. DkD Yes the custom is so easy and comfortable to ride I will be keeping it no matter what. It is just so handy for nipping here and there local as well as slightly long missions. I figure when the test process is complete I will be keeping it and also get a larger bike as well. 8. Bippo, The new bulb is a ring RMU417 12vx35w. It is an improvement and has saved me from hitting a badger one morning. I dont think the fitting is the same for your bike but its worth checking out. I hope the conti's will inspire some confidence as the current tyres are, well lets just say poor and leave it at that. As Sunday is bike cleaning day when it gets back from work, the chain is cleaned and lubed and the rest is given some TLC. I will take photo and post it on the gallery if I remember. Beef the YBR only has a small wire frame and not a filter but yes it will be cleaned as well. As will the coverage of ACF to keep the tin worm away. But thanks for the reply and I take your point and agree. Some TLC goes a long way. Old River Man
  9. Well I have now been a member of this forum for one month and I have been riding for a month. In the intro on the new members page I did mention that the light on YBR was not good in the morning. So I have changed it for a better one, it is still 35w but gives a better spread and quality of light. It is not the best light in the world but it is better than the standard one. The bike is going well and currently doing about 115 mpg. Bear in mind most of the riding is down lanes and small roads with only a few street lights on the way to work in the morning. It's not such a problem as I only see 4 other cars on the way in most of the time. There is always the odd one but generally its pretty quiet at 4.30am. So it only gets up to 50+ in very small bursts which most likely helps the MPG. I have treated the bike to a new plug and I will be changing the oil this weekend. It has also had coating of ACF 50 in the vunerable places and is due to have new tyres next week. As the bike is the custom model (ideal for those of us with small legs) the tyres are a challenge. The size for the custom is 3.00x18 front and 3.50x16 rear. After much searching and telephoning the YBR is getting a pair on Conti's next week. The Chinese standard tyres may last ages but they are so bad in the wet and damp it is not funny. While trying find the correct right tyres I actually spoke to Yamaha and all they could offer for the rear was the Chinese tyre at £120 fore the rear only but they had no stock and did not know when they would be getting any. Wonderfull! So I suppose the next thing to tackle is the theory test follwed by the mod1 and mod 2. The YBR is a great little bike for knocking around on and I dont expect to sell it even when I have passed the test. It may get a stablemate to keep it company some time next year though. 10. Thanks for the reply's. I have ordered an upgrade to the standard 35w bulb from an internet company. This should arrive today or tomorrow. I will report back after I have done a few mornings with it fitted. Just for the record the new bulb is a Ring 12v 35w BA20D bulb. Old River Man
  11. Thanks for all the reply's. Bippo where did you get the bulb from as I have spent far to much time on the internet looking for one. Without any real success. You can PM if you want to. I do agree they are great little bike and ideal for taking you to work every day. So Iam sure I made the right choice for me.
  12. Hi Just joined the forum after recently completing my CBT. Bought a YBR 125 custom which I am mainly using to get to work and back. The bike is great and very easy to ride but the headlight can only be descibed as poor. As most of daily work journey is down lanes without the benefit of street lighting I think I may have to upgrade the healight. I leave for work at 5am so it is an issue I need to address. Anyway apart from that I am really enjoying the ride to work and back. May even get a bit more adventurous when I have some more experience on the road. Old river man
