1982 YAMAHA XJ650J MAXIM This bike I purchased from a co-worker who bought it new in 1983, he says for 2,300.00 from left over 1982 inventory. He rode it until 1988 when his son was born, then he garaged it at his wife's request "uummm" so it sat in the back of his garage, no cover,no storage maintenance, year after year I bugged him about selling it to me, with him saying nope, I am going to get it running and ride it "yea right lol" Fast Forward to February of 2012, he ask if I was still interested in buying that old Yamaha!@!!! I said yes I am if you are really interested in getting rid of it, he said his house was being foreclosed on and he had to sell it, he said I would take $300.00 cash for it if you come and get it today, so after setting for 20 some years I went and picked it up, odometer reading was 5,692 miles, he said it still has the same gas in the tank from 1988, and doesn't know what all it will need to get running. All it needed was some heavy cleaning for appearance, some new plugs, new battery "gel" type, oil change, brake lines flushed, new tires, and some cool purchases from eBay, all in total of about $500.00 more dollars, the picture I uploaded was taken on 9/3/2012 and I am having a blast with this old, but new XJ650 the gas tank was clean as new, "do not know why" but am happy it was, didn't even have to rebuild the carbs!!! it just likes to hall ass, and that's how I became a Yamaha owner!!!

  1. Hello everyone!! My serial # on the original title was much shorter than what is stamped on the frame, It took several months of Missouri DMV and Highway Patrol Inspections to get my title back legal, it was the same S/N just not the entire 17 #'s on the frame,l it was just the 1st 7 #'s on the title of the frame stamp! Anyone else have this issue with S/N's ??? 1982 Yamaha xj650j Maxim
