  2. using the vin number from another frame is a ringer and if the police stop you and figure it out its "good bye to your bike" they will take it and probably crush it.

keep all receipts and when you get your new frame get the receipt for it as well, then get the sva done and you will get a Q plate reg. job done all legal and above board.

even with the weld on hard tail I had it inspected but because I had used so much of the donor bike I was allowed to keep the reg, they used to use a points system for it, don't know if they still do.

  3. I am having issues with posting replies on here.

I am unable to cut and paste. either from here or from other sites, like photobucket.

it is also taking a while for the letters to appear after they have been typed.

that is my old cb550/4 chopper

depends what engine you want to use, something like a bandit then you can get a frame off hard up choppers. he does frames for other things also.

but then your bike would not be a one off, as the frame is produced by them and there are a few out there.

if you want some thing one off then get some one to make it to your design.

haggis is up in kilwinning and then there is maz of maz chops down south. and then there are more in beteween. it does not say your location in your profile. so they are examples

but if you want to get an idea of the things possible then go and have a look on britchopper.co.uk that is a forum mainly focusing on the chop and custom side of things. and has some seriously talented and well established builders on there.

  5. servicing is easy.

    heres how I do it

    make a brew.

    head to garage.

    turn on radio.

turn radio up to loud enough to enjoy but not piss neighbours off level. number 21 on mine.

drain oil= run engine for tens mins to warm it up.

make another brew and drink while you let bike cool for ten mins so it don't burn you.

place catch tub under oil drain plug.

    remove oil drain plug,

    remove oil filter.

remove oil filler cap, helps oil drain properly....

    remove spark plugs,

    install new plugs

    remove air filter.

    fit new air filter,

    remove fuel filter

    fit new fuel filter

apply a smear of oil to oil filter.

    fit oil filter,

    fit drain plug,

    fill with oil

    run bike up to temp

have another brew, maybe a biscuit or even some cake. while allowing bike to cool

    check oil level

    top up if necessary.

    run bike up to temp.

    take a piss if needed

    check oil level

top up if needed if not put cap on and leave alone

    drain shaft drive oil.

check the oil as it drains for metal particals or other foreign bodies

    refill the shaft drive system.

    check cables.

then either replace or at very least lube them.

then check and lube all other points that need it.

spoked wheels fitted, then check spokes for tension or damage.

    replace or tighten if needed

check tyres for wear and damage, check side wall for cracking

check tyre pressure, adjust as needed.

check all bulbs, replace if needed

check and grease all point that need it, brake pedal pivot. brake rod arm. ect ect.

check all nuts / bolts for correct torque/ tightness. tighten as needed

check any 'R' pins or split pins. if badly rotten then replace, better now than when they brake when your riding and nut works free and makes you crash...

cherk fork seals, and replace if needed.

check fuse and fuse holders. clean them and replace fuses.

as your doing this clean any thing that needs to be cleaned when crawling around and under the bike, or with parts removed that normally would not be.

    optional.

    remove old brake pads/shoes.

    fit new pads/shoes

    drain brake cables.

    refill with new fluid

    bleed brakes

stand back admire your handy work and have another brew, gear up go for a ride, about ten mile round trip to check all is ok.

allow bike to cool and check fluid levels again

this is how I service mine once every year. takes about 6 hours or so, but I go in garage have all that I need there, turn radio on and get to it.

great way to spend a day, and some of the things I have mentioned you may have noticed before you get to the service, like fork seals or bad bulbs.

so if your looking to do it in eight weeks time then start looking at the bike as your riding it and note any thing you want to look at, or order parts you need so that you have everything ready to go.

I set aside the day for it, so I don't feel pressured to do as much as I can before the time runs out, or have to cut it short and not do all I want.

and I can then take it steady and not rush and allow any penetrating oil time to work and time for things to settle ect ect .

that's a link to the type of bar you want.

if your top yoke has a one piece yoke and riser then you will need to get the bar that fits, ie same diameter as that's fitted now.

but if your top yoke has the bolt in type riser you will need the bars and risers. and then its a bolt off and bolt on job.

and if you want to come to mine and get some help to fit them then I am willing to help you out.

  7. bar swaps are easy to do and can be done in less than an hour.

but you need to make sure that the cables and hoses are going to be long enough and that the replacement bars wont foul on anything when fitted. need to check these on full lock both ways, check for cables hoses being stretched or catching ect, and bars fouling on any thing they could come into contact with.

the switch gear on some bikes has a little locating blob moulded into the switch gear housing so a hole will need to be drilled in the bars if this is the case. other than that its a case of unscrewing the stuff loose old bars fit new ones and the refit switch gear.

    where abouts are you located??

  8. well this project may well be dead in the water.

cant find any one to make my yokes and sort the frame.

the frame has had a few bits chopped off, or damaged and the steering stem has been cut from the standard yokes by the basterd who was making the custom ones.

looked at replacement frame ect not worth it.....

  9. that's a good link.

have repaired plastics like that before. but I added some fibreglass I=on the inside as extra strength.

post some pics of your fairng for us to look at.

and it may be cheaper to get replacement panels rather than a pro repair....

  10. yeah it was scary, worst few hours of my life.

be a crappy few weeks, what with the after effects of the injury and whats happened with the bike, but got the docs in the morning for results of latest test and then going seeing a guy about my frame.

an bippo get to the toy run, make them few hours free you will enjoy it. I will deffo be there no matter what, faired red cx500 with offensive sticker on wind screen :babyha:

  11. I have always ridden all my bikes all year round.

I just give the a really good clean and prep before winter, lube anything that needs lubing and oil anything that needs oiling. don't forget to do your cables.

spray a load of wd-40 type stuff on them and I spray it every where except disks and pads. every couple of weeks give it a jet wash with hot water and washing up liquid dry it then re-coat with the wd-40 stuff.

when winters over I clean it all really well then polish any thing that needs it, re-lube and oil things and change any badly damaged parts. I also go over the electrical connectors and clean them with connector cleaner.

maybe takes a day or two at start and end of winter
