    My Bobber project

check your pms. have sent you a link to one for sale that sounds like it might do you.not my bike by the way..
  7. stick the footage up so we can have a look. and if he is new to riding then any big bike will be heavy on insurance but something like an r6 will be very expensive. I personally think he needs to get himself another 125 and get some miles under his belt and learn the art of riding a bit more. but i still stand with what i sadi about gettinghim to do the maintenance on his machine. things like adjusting the chain and checking his oil/fluids ect ect will teach him to look after it more and will also edge him towards not wrecking the bike as he has put so much into it...
  8. if that dont work check the carb rubbers. could be to much air getting in and stalling it.
  9. get some pics of it up as it is now, take plenty of them so if we ask for such and such shot you have it, but to start with, forget the plastics damage, repairs and repaints are easy enough when he wants to sell it on after he has used it to get his full licence,. get shots of the forks and wheel and the headstock, thats the bit where the forks meet the main frame, and any other areas of damage. but from what your saying it sounds like the dealer is having you over a little, he will be charging you main dealer prices for labour probably £50 plus an hour, he will be using brand new parts, headlight indicators bars ect, and these wil be mega money. they may possibly have another one in and are intending on using yours as parts. or will do it up and sell it off, just because they are main delaers it does not mean that they aint a bit ropey. and if your son is serious about biking then he now has a golden chance to learn alittle about maintaing and mending/ modifying his ride. get him to look at the parts and try to figure out how he will fix them.. dont you do it all, make him do some. a replacement headlight unit may be out of your price reange but if you take it off and ged rid and have twin spots and replacement headlights. a quick look at the link and assuming there is no frame damage and the forks and wheels are good then.. and assuming the bars are twisted and the levers bent then.. Twin spot headlights £40 replacement indicators £8 new handle bars £15 new levers 2 @ £8 = £16 new grips £12 new cable 2 @ £15 = £30 so the parts would be £121. if he does it labour = nothing and expeience = priceless if a local shop and not main dealer does it 6 hours @ £40 so total repair could be as little as £360 if i was you i would get it back off the main dealer and then find some one local to have a look. dont rush in get a couple of local smaller bike shope to have a look and give you a price. oh and glad hes ok, the first one spill is always the worse.

i found that the cost of having the stanchions ground and re-chromed was almost the same price as new stanchions. do some research and see. i went for the new ones as i figured brand new ment no little bends or nastys hidden,, where as having the old ones reworked with what ever milage ect behind them was a bit silly

    xs250 rebuild

have had a spare couple of hours today. so i did some tidying up of the garage and decided to do a dry build up of the engine to see if there would be any major issues with the replacement parts and my original parts. plus it meant that the bits where together and not spread across the garage. so it all went together with out to many hiccups... still need to blast the top end. 1 the bolts on the underside need to be placed in the holes prior to the lower cases going into the jig. because there is not enough clearance between the jig rail and the engine case to push it in after engine is in the jig. 2 the top nuts need to be taken off before putting any of the engine together as when i was unscrewing them i dropped one into the lower engine.... good job its only a dry build up  3 there is a load of allen bolts from the outter casings missing, these were not there when i got it so need to replace them with correct ones. also decided on the colours for the powder coating.. the engines outter cases will be powder coated silver, everthing else will be gloss black, as for the tank i am undecided am going for minimal polished areas as this will be my commuter bike,

yeah i made it there as he has all the gear needed. i left it on the bench where the pics were took. it needed to cool before i could take it home, was red hot after welding. you get the tank done then?

    xs250 rebuild

have finally stripped the engine down to empty cases. and i have also blasted the lower half of the lower case. i also built a little jig to hold the engine while i rebuild it and until the frame is ready. might not look much but i made it from scratch with no drawings and did the few welds myself, something else i aint never done before. but it will hold it while i work on it and it will do what i want it too.

you can get the fork lowers powder coated in silver. they do other colours than black you know. when i come to do the fork lowers on the xs i think i will have the powdered in silver, as the are already silver. what i do is strip it all down and then get all the parts blasted and cleaned. then gather up all the parts on the floor/bench and then work my way through and decide paint or powder and put in relevant pile. then take all the bits to the powder coaters at once, discuss what i want and get the price then leave them with them ready for them to work thier magic. i do it in one go as then i get it all back together and there is a better chance of it all getting done together in one shoot and blast session and above all, get a better price

    xs650 chop

i sort of go and hang around there, but i stripped a bike down friday and did some tidying up and sorting out today. just trying to do something other than sit in the house and watch poo telly or play xbox. and the carbs have been stripped and rebuilt a few times. even had a su (i think) carb conversion on it, it runs ok for a couple of weeks then goes to crap again. so brad is thinking electrical..

    Gilera 4V project

with the repair to the frame you need to V both of the edges of the tube so you can weld it all the way round. to allow good penetration and a proper join, and then grind back flush for a seamless almost invisible repair.

    xs250 rebuild

dont worry about it getting cleaned out it will be getting a good air hosing and a trip through the parts washer and i will ask about the tank. you get any pics of it

    xs250 rebuild

well i have had a blast at my mate brads today, literally. all afternoon with the sand blasting cabinet i did the top half of the lower cases, the engine, breather cover, the barrels, and the con rod. am happy with all the bits, espcially the con rod as it was rusty and full of crap and has come up so clean and well and no signs of damage. couple of comparison pics. at the top of the pic you can just see the top of the lower cases... will take some of all the engine parts together when they are all done.
