  1. following on from a few topics on here, and on a couple of other forums i am on, i am going to start a ''ARE YOU WILLING TO HELP'' thread. i have read a few topics about people needing things done to their vehicle but due to the owners lack of ability or knowledge or confidence then they have either put the work off and made it worse or sent it to a garage to get the work done. for example one of the guys on a off roading forum i am on wanted to fit a lift kit to his car, springs, spacers, new shocks. i have done it and he is only a few miles away, he was quoted just shy of £400 to get it fitted. after some discussion i said i was happy to help him fit it if he came to me with the car and all the bits. it took us two hours to do it, the lad learned how to do it, understands how it all goes together. or if repairs are needed then he knows how ect. and he saved £400. he gave me a crate of beers, which i didnt ask for. so basically post if you are willing to help some one local to you with their bike problems, and i mean hands on help not just advice online. all you gotta do is say where you are and what you are willing to do. beef, oldham manchester, general maintenance and modifications, replacing of parts. got a garage and a few general tools.
  2. cut the old chain off. get the sprockets off. change sprockets for new ones. new chain job done.... or as i said before ask if some on here is local and willing to help for a few drinks.... beer is an amazing currency to a man. that way you get it done cheaper and learn a few things and meet some one new and possibly useful....
  3. i could estimate a money value but i think i will go with the age old currency of ' a ripping out of wallet through anal cavity, and an expensive lesson'.. but seriously i would be thinking some where in region of £500 depending on labour..£150ish for parts. £240 for labour (8hours @£30) plus a little for the not running side of things...
  4. where abouts are you, and if you were willing to pay a garage a decent chunk of cash, maybe you can use some of what you have saved to get some one a couple of beers and ask them to help/ guide you while you do it
  5. bippo is right, and if not someone off here then maybe a local club, and failing that a night school course may be in order. but i think you need to make a couple hours a week free for you and your bike, just do the basics to start with, and build from there.
  6. never mind pics, how about an intro. go to the user panel and fill in your details, might get more help that way.
  7. its definately water related so how are the garage going to sort it?? wait for it to rain and go for a ride to see if it does it or are they just going to spend a few hours at £xx per hour and then say they couldnt find owt wrong???
  8. have you checked the air box. make sure its clean and dry in there, check for water getting to places where it shouldnt. check your carb rubbers as well, make sure they are fine, check that your inner rear guard is fitted and fitted correctly. but if its doing it when wet its going to be hit and miss in finding it. but remember to make it work it needs three main things... spark air fuel. and as i said in another thread i would be looking at the air box and filter, filter gets wet and bike can not breath so dies... the yellow lines show how the rain will run down off you and onto the bike. and the green show some of the bikes body lines that will aid water flowing towards your air box area, that is asuming your airbox is the red circle.
  9. for £20 get it try it and if ts a no go then sell it on or stick it in your parts bin for future use. oh and where abouts in manchester are you??
  10. have you checked the air filter? mate of mine has a cg125 and it was running like crap in the rain and for a couple of days after the rain. we checked through it and found that the air filter was soaked. did a bit of lookng over and figured out how it was getting wet. sorted that issue and dried the filter and all is good....
  11. you could do worse than to go to your profile and fill in the info so people know where you are and stuff..
  12. i have had the issue with the air machine before what you need if one of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=flexible+tyre+valve&_nkwusc=flexible+trye+valve&_rdc=1 just stick it in your pocket and use it and back in ya pocket, does away with all the issues of dodgyangled valves and what have you.
  13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=helmet+earphones&_sacat=0&_from=R40 have been thinking of trying these, what with the road trip coming up and a possible 6 to 8 hours a day riding, it could get boring.
  14. currently, 10.20 am on 14/01/13 its giving some good size bits on a constant steady fall and has been for three or four hours in oldham, manchester. now weres me sled..... hope i dont end up in ..
  15. .. not far off. this was what happened last week. my 1994 vitara was rotten. would of got £160 tops for weighing it in. saw a wanted add for on the off road fourm i am on. looked on ebay at the prices. under cut them, £10 or £20. and then replied to the adds. sold the bits. i then knew that i had made more than scrap value and it only took half a day to strip pack and send the bits. i then stuck a load of other bits on e-bay £10 cheeper than the rest. as it was a free listings weekend and sold a load of it. total in pocket £600 easy way to make money if you have the right car and some where to do it... oh and money is going towards a new bike...
  16. security light with a sensor. feckin great bright thing, worked for me and my mate a few weeks back when some pond life thought they would try and have his cx away out of his garden. i was sat watching american football at about 2am and the light came on so got my attention. looked out of window and saw the scumbag. phoned my mate who was home in bed and woke him and we hit the little foooker from both sides, hehe.. he wasnt hurt during our motions but he did fall over several times....

  21. have played front row for way to long and am now playing number 8. i know i aint got long left so am having fun with it. i played to a high standard as a teen, playing league but suffered a bad shoulder injury, 16 breaks / fractures and dislocations to the shoulder/ upper arm/ collar bone area, so stopped playing for two years but ended up back and playing union, and coached a team from under 6's through to under 19's. stopped that last year when the became open age, but will probably take on a senior team next season. a pic of me and four of the lads that i have coached who have grown up and played along side me on my birthday last year..

    xs250 rebuild

having not had the time or money to do any more on the xs i managed to get in the garage today and have a look where i was up to and then came in and hit the internet to find the bits i need, i have found a gasket set and the various oil seals i need but i can not get hold of the crank plane bearings... i can get one but not a set... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-XS250-XS400-79-BEARING-PLAIN-CRANKHAFT-/360439939774?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item53ebe502be
  24. sounds like a bad connection. go over what you have done from the light back. could be a bad earth, will take time and if you do take it to the garage it could well be an expensive trip.
