    am back...

we had a penalty five metres out, I took it quickly and was going in to score and as I was at about knee level I got hit or kneed in the head. that was it, all feeling and movement gone. could not move at all, could not even spit my gum shield out. was as if some one had turned the power off. I lay there shouting for help but no words were coming out of my mouth and as the play moved on one of the opposition realised I was in trouble. he dropped to the floor and helped me. turned out he was a spinal nurse from Salford hospital. a second opposition player then joined in to help and he was a staff nurse at the MRI, the physio was called over and the three of them supported me and looked after me until the ambulance appeared. I was strapped to a back board and taken to a+e. had CT scans and x-rays and after about an hour my legs and arms started to work again. by 9 pm I was given the all clear and sent home. very sore and stiff, felt like I was walking on ice but sort of floating at the same time. have still got a pins and needles type sensation in my right leg and very little feeling in both feet. had blood tests last week to see if its a chemical in-balance caused by the injury and if nothing shows up it will be a case of physio and tests to try and find out what it is. go back Friday to see the doc again

    xs250 rebuild

update time. the frame, forks, wheels ect have been at brads for nearly six months and nothing has been done to them.... turns out he is a bit of a con-man and has been ripping people off left right and centre. so I have now got them all back and now need to find some one to finish the yokes he has started and then the frame repairs.... the engine is now back home, needs to be properly and thoroughly cleaned as there is sand every where from the blasting that was done at the shop. the cases all look good and the rust and shite that was present internally is no longer there and there is no lasting damage from what I can tell. so plans are. find some one to finish the frame works and yokes. clean and rebuild engine. ect ect ect.....
  3. I will be there, on my cx, big red thing with black panniers. just turn up from 10:30 ish, get a brew from Tesco and then spend an hour or so watching others turn up and chatting then depart at noon, make our way to the together trust and then on to lowry centre for francis house hospice shop, then split up and head our own ways. just bring an unwrapped toy for some one aged up to 16. then either carry it to one of the drop offs and then put it where told to or stick it in one of the trikes or trailers and then unload at the drop offs. done the last 7 of these, great couple of hours.

    am back...

hey guys, been awol for a few weeks as I have: A- had no lap top due to the mrs smashing the screen by knocking the laptop off the arm of the chair. B- getting paralysed playing rugby. C- having some shit with the guy who was doing the work to my frame. but. A- laptop is now fixed. B- I am now 95% fixed C- I have got my stuff back and am in the process of sorting some one else to do my frame. so what have I missed? beef
  5. am properly chuffed with it. makes the bike look less scruffy and a lot more cared for. the bike is, it has had water pump mechanical seal, head gasket, spark plugs, filters, oils, coolant, front brake master cylinder, new brake fluid, fork seals and brake pads in last three months. it is my every day ride. so needs to be road worthy and in good condition. am now looking at getting the paint work tidied up.
  6. well this was my seat as I got the bike and it got worse over the last few weeks. so I decided to get it sorted. I went and saw mat at Caulfield leather in Hyde and he said that the best bet was to get a cover for it and he would fit it. so a while back I got a replacement cover off ebay for £13 delivered, but with the issues with the overheating the new cover has sat in its box in the garage waiting for the fate of the bike to be decided. Now the bike has been sorted out and is running well and I have the day off work I decided that I would get the seat sorted. first things first. take the seat off the bike. this is the underside of the seat. it is in good condition and all the rust is surface rust and will be getting rubbed down and repainted this weekend first step was to bend these little tabs back and free the old seat cover ready for removal remove the locking washer that holds the trim on and the carefully remove the trim, making sure not to bend it then we hit a snag. there are one of these on each side holding the strap in place. I had already soaked them over night trying to free them up to make it possible to get them out but when being un screwed it became obvious that one of them was chewed up on the end and was not going to unscrew, so mat ended up drilling out one of the screws. got one out in one piece so at least I know what I need to replace it with if I decide to do it.. so with the old cover removed we could see the foam for the first time. and it was in really good shape and needed nothing doing to it. then it was time for mat to do his magic. he put the new cover over the seat, moved it around a little until he was happy with the location of the panels and the tacked the rear of the seat in place you can see mat using a heat gun to make the cover more workable and to also remove some of the creases that the cover had from being packaged. this is the rear of the seat tacked in place while mat then worked on fitting the front of the seat, and then he tacked that in place. once he was happy with the front to back positioning and look of the seat he then worked from the widest part of the seat and repeated the heating and tacking process until he was happy. then he went round and secured all the tacks down fully and then trimmed the excess material with a scalpel then refitted the trim and secured it in place with the washers. and the a wipe down and it was done. am really happy with the end result and for £35 all in I think I got a good deal. many thanks to mat for doing it and for letting me hang around taking pics and asking questions while he did it.

    xs250 rebuild

well todays day off was pretty productive, i got rid of all my scrap out of the garage, had a bit of a tidy up in there as well and did a tip run with a load of stuff from in the house and went and saw brad at the shop. i went in to see about the frame mods for the seat unit, some repairs to the brake pedal mount area and also heel plates. i also wanted to know how much work would be involved in fitting the usd to the orginal frame. i was going to use the usd forks and xs wheels as they matched and i only had one spoked wheel. we chatted about the ideas and decided on..... some one off yokes with the xs steering stem. to allow the fitting of the usd forks. design and construction to be sorted by brads when other bits are done use the usd forks with the spoked wheel. its a 21" and will have a new tyre fitted, will be blasted and powder coated rim with stainless spokes. the frame mods needed and the heel plate issue. sub-frame mods needed to fit the seat unit. repairs of brake mount area and heel plates, also a smaller chain guard. blast the frame ready for powdercoating using a spoked rear wheel with disk brake. Baz had one on the rack which will be getting used. its a 19" rim and will have a new tyre on it.will need mounts for the master cylinder and also a caliper hanger rim will be blasted and powder coated and rebuilt with stainless spokes. so i left it with them to get to work on and i came away with a shopping list of bits that i will need to find over the next few weeks. bits like crosser / renthal type bars, new front master cylinder, pair of calipers, rear master cylinder, new tyres. updates as and when they happen.....

    xs250 rebuild

well i gotta say this project has been left in the corner with nothing done to it. but i now have afull time job with a monthly income and regular days off, so when the bills are sorted i will have some cash for me to spend on it, so i will get the engine bits ordered and then rebuild it.and i have also done a bit of a barter with brad at the shop and for my old cb750 engine he is going to done the frame work for me and also make me some yokes and sort out fitting the upside down crosser forks. as drewpy hinted at. i was not going to fit the usd forks, but seeing as work is only 5 miles away and i need to get there all year round i am going for a crosser type look for the bike. so will look at tyre choices for use in snow ect. and fit the usds and also some longer shocks
  11. i had a left hand side mounted number plate on my cb550 chop... then i got pissed off with smaking it and whacking my leg on it as i rolled it in and out of the gate so put it to a standard type posisiton only pic i got, but the added bonus was it stopped a lot of the crap flying up off the back wheel.

    Theory Test

bippo there is road rider at aldwinians rugby club in audenshaw / droylsden. they are good guys been doing it for years. they are the two alex's who used to work for belle vue. and i also know a guy who runs his own school over worsley way aswell. if yo want any mor einfo give me a shout.
  13. sounds like you are on the right lines with it. you may need to strip the carb and clean it as its been stood with fuel in it, you may need to do the fork seals as well as they may have dried out. and then its full sevice mode. clean all elctrical connections. change filters, may be some bearings. get your cbt and get out on the road and have fun where abouts are you? fill in your details on the user control panel.....
  14. blocked fuel filter???? restricting fuel flow, and blocking up so scoot dies. did it just cut out or did it splutter and die?
  15. matt caulfield, shop is in hyde. caulfield leather is the shops name. decent enough lad. going to fit my new cover on the cx seat for £15, i have got the new cover and he is just gonna fit it. he told me it would cost about £50 for him to make a cover and to go look on ebay for one... honest and open fella
  16. best advice on this is to get a manual, haynes or service or something like that. it will have all the answers to those little questions that pop up in the first few months of owning a new bike.
  17. firstly its not the best of form to join up and ask questions straight away with out posting an intro in the new members bit, you know basics about yourself, name, where you are, how old, what experience with bikes and mechanics, stuff like that.... but heres goes can you get your hand on the carb end of the choke? if so try moving the slider by hand. it may just be stuck because its been stood. get hold of it and pull it, spray some wd or similar on it try and move it, clean it spray it ect ect.... it should work free, failing that it could be stuck inside the carb body and need stripping down and cleaning internally. if its not stuck and moves freely then the cable is at fault. may be the wrong one, stretched beyond its limits. incorrectly set, snapped, damaged or routed incorrectly. you may need to take the tank off to allow good access to the carb and to look at the routing of the cable
  18. you need to remove the tank to route the cable and to fix it to the carb... if you are feeling brave you could leave the tank full and rest it on a bucket incase of leakage of fuel. have done it this way before, but it is best to drain it. then again looking at your bike you may be able to remove the side panels and feed the new cable to the carb end and install it, will be tight to get hands in there but may be do able. and its always best to feed to the carb and then hook carb end up before doing throttle end.
  19. that clutch master cylinder looks a bit crusty and fluid looks rank. i would look at taking it off and cleaning it out, flushing the lines and then rebleeding. as for the tubes, the one in the second pic looks like it could be a breather / drain tube from the air box. it should run down near the swing are and out to the world underneath. have a look and if so get rid. the blue one could be a breather for the engine as for the others i aint sure. as for the shocks thats up to your personal preferance. how hard or soft you want them will be decided after you have rode the bike for a while, my front forks on my Z are hard, but i like them that way, but my mate hates them...
  20. my daily is a 78 cx500, no issues using it as a daily, its got a fairing and panniers. i just do the basic maintenance, weekly checks of fluids ect. fill with fuel and use..
  21. get in touch with them and check, i know a few guys who have passed their car test after their bike test and when they got their licence back the bike part had gone. turned out it was a dvla computer cock up.
  22. this may sound daft but is the sight glass misted over inside. so you cannot see through it. had this on my cb550. so to check the oil i just removed the filler cap and checked, if i couldnt see it i topped it up a bit. and after a trip to glasgow, about 340 miles i looked and could see the oil through the glass..
  23. the trick is in the prep work. got to get it clean and de oiled. vht primer, the few light coats of vht. bake it on. use a heat gun to warm the parts before spraying and between coats but cheap paints are genrally cheap becaue they are a bit poor
  24. this years egg run is on sunday 24th march. meeting at tesco portwood and leaving at noon. couple of stop offs planned.. any one going? i know its same day as the manchester bike show.
  25. another little thing that may help, when you try to start it if its not working try taping off half of eac air filter. may be getting to much air in and mixing the ratios up becase of the pods, my z750 was a bastard to set up, took nearly three months of fiddling and changing little bits to get it right.
