  1. Holy cow! This is still going on. I got wrapped up in suzukis and forgot about my favorite yamaha website. You should have just called down. We could have worked something out for a rebuild and it would have been in a timely manner. Thats ridiculous that the shop still has that engine. Did they get the magneto sorted out?
  2. Do you have a fuel filter installed? If you still have spark and compression you probably don't have fuel now. Give her a squirt of of ether. If it kicks up for a second then dies. You need to figure out why you don't have fuel. Do you store it with the fuel shut off?
  3. Yep that is definitely an oil and water mix. If you really want to get after it you might want to consider re-sealing the whole engine. You can substitute silicone for the case gaskets. Air head will probably have to chime in on where that oil around the pump is coming from. I would imagine there has to be a lip seal around the drive shaft for the pump as it goes through the case. But if you have a few hours to waste you can also pull the clutch/basket and make sure everything is good there and replace the gear side crank seal. Also since the mag/stator plate are already removed you should do the mag side crank seal as well. After that its just kickstart, clutch finger, and gear selector oil seals which are all easily accessible from the outside of the engine. All those seals are available from rocky mountain for around $5 a piece. And then you wont be doing one every two weeks til they are all new which is the way it seems to go when one starts leaking. Good luck and who knows maybe your husband will dig sharing you with another girl. Even if she is a dirty one.
  4. Any progress this weekend?
  5. Thanks for the advice. I know that's what I should tell her to do. But the tinkerer in me wants to see what this little ttr can do.
  6. Black hat is right and wrong. Spraying soapy water on a naturally aspirated intake isnt going to tell you squat unless you have a fiberoptic camera in the boot as its going to suck in. But you would be hard pressed to get enough water in the cylinder with a spray bottle to "hydrolock" the engine. If the smoke on the head is coming out of the gasket its a good bet that is your leak. If its coming off the surface of the head or the valve cover your probably just burning off some oil that was spilled on it during the build. A compression test will tell you if it is in the cylinder(i.e head gasket). If compression is in spec then you need to check that everything between the carb and cylinder is intact and airtight. However. I think that since it changed between carbs you most likely just need to get the carb in spec. Get the A/F screw adjusted. Check the main jet, pilot jet, needle jet. If you have a factory air-box/filter, then getting everything back to factory specs is a great place to start.
  7. My girlfriend has half outgrown her 2003 TTR125l. So we are talking about whether she should upgrade to something like a yz125 or mod the TTR. It is bone stock as it sits. Prior to her it was a field bike used for herding sheep(scarier than a barking dog I'd imagine). So I'd like some opinions and it seems like you UK guys are Nuts for the 125's. So what are the best bang for the buck mods? Mainly interested in engine and suspension? Thanks for any insight. -Dave
  8. I think you should get a better feel of what you want then have someone that is better at photoshop do a rendering.
  9. And don't forget you will need the magneto and stator plate from your engine to get that one running. Are at least a new source coil. Dont hesitate to call with any questions when it comes time to get her roaring(or whatever sound best describes these old smokers; screaming maybe).
  10. Yep snows coming. Your on the clock.
  11. Has anyone mentioned the KLR650 yet? They are great bikes for intermediate riders.
  12. You have to be a bit more specific. What fuel light are you talking about? And what is it not doing?
  13. Colorrite.com had deep purplish blue last time I checked. Or take airheads advice and have a local coatings shop mix you up a can.
  14. You guys are the best! Like I thought the 140 is a little big for my elevation. Thanks again -Dave
  15. Does anyone have a manual for the DT175E? I would just like to know the factory carb settings particularly the main jet size, clip position, and air screw position. Also if your manual specifies I am at 5000' above sea level. Thanks -Dave
  16. Oh it will definitely run. The engine on the parts bike would start first kick w/choke every time in the morning. I drove it for coffee every morning til the mag quit. Between the two I have no doubt you will have a runner before winter comes.
  17. Reading through both pages of that was a waste of time. And the UK passive aggressive thing kills me. To the OP stop being a Douche and pull your head out of your ass(or arse) for a second and realize everyone here has tried to help you. Its pretty clear that your bike is some sort of frankenstein bastard child or a more rare one-off model maybe not made in mass production numbers. But as has been stated, post a picture if you want further help so we can have some sort of visualization of what it is that you have done a terrible job explaining. From 'Merica with love -Dave
  18. My neighbor to the north sacha has laid claim to the whole bike to help finish her project.
  19. Good. Ill get some pics posted this weekend. Depends on what you want. I got the bike for next to nothing and im not looking to make a profit. Just figured I'd give you guys the chance to tear some parts off it before it goes to sit in a Junkyard. PM's replied.
  20. I'm going to be sending my 1975 dt175 to the boneyard before winter comes in. If there is something you need for your project let me know. It is a complete bike minus fuel tank and magneto. This is not a for sale thread it's a help people with there project before this bike goes to scrap thread.
  21. X-ray seems a bit extreme. At work we use an NDT method called MPI(magnetic particle inspection) to find cracks in anything ferrous(hubs, blocks, spindles, etc) and a dye penetrant called magnaflux spotcheck for all non ferrous cracks. The spotcheck would work just fine for your wheel though(the MPI is expensive) and be cheaper than an x-ray I would think.
  22. Got sick of the hodge podge of different paint colors and scratches showing all the different layers of colors so i sanded down and started fresh. Volkswagen tornado red on the tank, fenders, side covers. (no orange peel after clear coat so didn't cut or buff) VHF "hi-temp roll cage/chassis" gloss black on the frame, engine, and exhaust. Hope you all approve.
  23. I took the 78 dt175e out for some off road fun last weekend.
  24. A friend of mine wants to get her first dirt bike. She is looking for something old and cheap, so im trying to get her on to an old yamaha. The problem Is she is only 5"0' tall 100lbs. She doesnt even comfortably fit on my DT175. What are some recommendations for a fun learner bike for someone that short? It will be used almost exclusively off-road. We found one 1993 RT100 for sale, but have not been able to check it out yet. Or whats involved in lowering the suspension on an older bike like the late 70's to early 80's DT's or TT's?
