I was never into computer games, but I remember getting hooked on my sons Jeremy McGraths Motocross. After a few weeks of building tracks and upping the spec of my bike, I declared to my wife. "I'm great at this, I think I'll get a motocross bike"..."Dont talk shite" was her subtle reply

What last post
Once you have checked the valve clearance, check the timing with a strobe, but I still think CDI

Firstly mate, Yes, if the float height is wrong it will just flood petrol though the airbox. Do you have a manual, if so strip, clean and reassemble the carb to the factory settings.
What year is the bike, and what year is the newer engine. When changing over the electrics did you fit a newer CDI unit. The fitment changed around 1997, I think. Now I dont know if the electronic brain inside the box changed but the CDI is not functioning correctly your bike will do everything you suggest in the opening paragraph.
As I say Im not sure if the internal of the unit changed at the same time as the wiring fitment, and indeed the new enging mapping may well have the same advance, retard curve of the auld engine, but summie else to think about once you sort the carb.
seemingly 50% of all carb issues are electronics and visa versa

Do that, or if you have a heat gun, apply some heat

I cant make up my mind whether I have been in Decisive or not, but I definately know I have been in Ebriated a few times, although things are a bit hazy there

Great job there mate. My pal had one and another had the sr500. I had the chance to pick one up a while back. Wish I had, as I'm trying to talk my boy into going down that route on his restricted licence

Ah to be young without a care in the world.
Unfortunately kids are more interested in their ball, ipod, phone or whatever than whats happening in front of them. We just have to keep a good lookout at all times, and you did, so well done. As was said above, he probably just called you a dickhead because he shat himself. Chalk it up to experience and enjoy the bike riding

Been riding bikes since I was about 14, old field bikes, then my first road bike at 17. An xs250cw, sorry drewpy but I have nowt but bad memories with that thing, other than it got me through my test on the 27th Decmber 1981. Anyway a year later I got my first Triumph 2 weeks before my 19th birthday.
I had sold the xs about 6 months earlier and managed to pick up a honda 4/4 for £200. Got it through its mot at no extra cost, rode about for a few months then a guy in work offered me £400. I snapped his hand off. Anyway I scoured the classifieds to no avail and the Classic Bike mag gave out a list of all Brit bike dealers in the UK. Twas the days before t'internet and I sat on the phone working down this list until I got to Allan Jeffries in Shipley, who told me there was a Bonneville comin in that day. They called me back the next morning saying it was a cracker and I was on my way down. My pal took me down on his Bonnie and after a few wrong turns we arrived in Shipley, paid the money £1100 and I was the proud owner of a 1979 T140D. A great run up the road followed by 7 years of fantastic riding about GB and ireland before some cnut stole my pride and joy and left me desolate.
I have never experienced the same rush of excitement, joy and adrenalin as I did the day I picked that bike up.

Alright folks
The longrunning saga of trying to get my son a decent bike is leading either a virago or dragstar. The question being:-
Has anyone here (UK) bought a Dragstar on a restricted licence and got insurance for said bike. If so what are the general costs
-
Sorry mate, when you said "rd250 , or even the 350 may be under" I assumed you were talking about the LCs. I thought the air cooleds were 250 and 400s. I agree with the Brit option tho, I am going to get him on the insurance for my Speed Twin (28bhp) but will keep looking at other options. Thinking xt/sr500 but its up to him

Having just been quoted over £2k for my son to get insurance on a restricted bike, I am looking to pick him up something a bit smaller, within the 33bhp limit.
He is into the cruiser style so looking at an xvs400 or summit similar.
From the collective experience of the board, what is available to him. What bhp is a 535 Virago or the xv650.
Any advice, help, ridicule welcomed.

I was down at the local(ish) VOSA depot to get my auld Triumph inspected and get rid of the Q plate. I got talking to the bloke and he was saying that the amount of ringers folk have bought off gumtree has soared over the last couple of years. The poor cnuts dont realise it until they turn up for an inspection to get a v5. So whatever you decide to do make sure you check the bike over thoroughly before handing over your hard earned cash.
Oh and the Q plate is no more, the bike now has the appropriate age related number plate attached.

1/ No problem, it will start first kick......

2/ mmmm it's never done this before
This invariably happens when a potential buyer has shown up to view the bike

Well this thread has brightened up an otherwise dull day

You can use your own bike, or hire one from the riding school.
If your bike is the xt125 it will meet any criteria needed, but the hire of the bike is only about £5 from the school (at least thats what it costs my son:- £55 for a 2 hour lesson, or £60 for the same lesson but they supply the bike).
I didnt think you needed a licence in Afghanistan
