  1. Stockie I wasn't out that far. I used to go to the Ballyshannon Trad music festival, mostly through Enniskillen, but went through Donegal town twice. Haven't been for about 3 years now, so am due going back, hmmm what am I doing this August. Oh and that was one of many pints drunk between Diceys, Sean ogs, Fin McCools and with big Val in Maxs' bar
  2. Alright mate Welcome to the nuthouse Ride the bike this summer and bob it during the winter edit I see your location as Donegal. My profie pic was taken in Dicey Rileys in Ballyshannon
  3. Sorry to hear that mate. I kinda agree with DT. Cut your losses and get rid mate, you'll just spend more dough on it. I wouldn't go for a 2 smoke tho'. They need a bit more care and attention and by your own admission you dont have enough time to work on the bike. Although with the newer smokes you just need to keep your eye on the oil tank and rad bottle
  4. Hey Slice If you lived closer I would take you up on that offer. My speedtwin uses whitworth, and my bombardier uses AF
  5. You need to pick up an auld Brit bike to get best use of your t&d set
  6. I stuck an ebay link in your "Q plate" thread

    Q plate

Dunno if this'll be of interest http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-DT50MX-owners-handbook-original-excellent-/261196952255?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3cd08d32bf
  8. DT It was, but it was before the pre60 regs came in. I went to the DVLA office in Glasgow with the dating cert, pics of my bike (including close ups of engine and frame nos) as well as library pics of the model. Filled in the SORN dec and got a call later that day arranging a visit to the VOSA depot. The vosa guy was reasonably knowledgeable and friendly enough. 10 mins later I was told I would be issued with the age plate
  9. DT I recently attained an age related plate for an auld Triumph. There was no reqirement to get the bike Insured and MOT'd anymore. All I had to do wassign a SORN declaration form. I did have to get it inspected, but that went easily enough

    Q plate

I've owned 2 bikes on Q plates. One was my xs1100. The reason for the Q was an indeterminate age. I contacted Yamaha UK and got a dating cert telling me the date of manufacture and the market it was sold (Europe). I presented this at the Glasgow DVLA office and was given a T plate (1979) The other is my Triumph Speedtwin. Bought on a q plate but with matching numbers. I contacted the TOMCC and got a dating certificate and once again presented this, plus photos of the bike, and the frame and engine number, to DVLA. This time I had to take the bike to my local VOSA to get it inspected. A few days later I was given an age related plate. Whilst at VOSA, I was chatting to the inspector who asked me "Is the bike rebuilt from parts, or assembled from parts" I asked his intepretation and was told rebuilt implies using the original parts and reassembled meant from a collection of parts not necessarily from the same bike. Needless to say I opted for rebuilt from parts, and as I say, I was issued with the age plate

    Almost finished

I had to put in a retaining wall made out of sleepers. My garden slopes at a 1 in 3 angle so there was a hooria lot of digging involved

    Almost finished

Well I'm almost at the end of my quest for a new shed. A couple of tons of earth, replaced by 2 ton of hardcore and 1cu metre of concrete and I was able to put this up today. I still have to insulate and line the inside, fit some electrics and make up a ramp, but the end is nigh. My original plan was to dig it down to street level, however when digging I came across some yellow tape advising me of a gas pipe so couldn't go any lower
  18. Try here mate http://viragotechforum.com/viewforum.php?f=6 Apologies if bad karma to post a link to another forum.
  19. The air filter will be black because its probably never been changed. The problem with learner bikes is that in the main, they get abused by their owner for 2 years till they pass their test, then passed on to the next newbie and the cycle continues. Occasionally they will pass into the hands of someone with a genuine interest in keeping the bike going. You be that man Elvis

    Grouched

Steering head bearings. Well done grouch for keeping a happy head on mate. I also think you should patent the term 'grouched®' and charge us all £1 whenever we use it

    MOD1 bummer1

Unlucky mate. My boy did his mod 1 and his instructor told him to keep the bike in 2nd gear, it was a Suzuki vanvan, until it hit the rev limiter. This ensured he went through the speed trap at the right speed. It did and he passed
  22. I am almost finished my preparation for my new shed. I had to dig out about 3 ton of dirt, my garden has a 1 in 3 slope and I had to level off an area of 10' x 10'. Thats all done and a retaining wall in place so today I applied a couple of coats of damp proofing to the concrete base in preparation for the shed arriving tomorrow. Now I'm heading off for 12hr nights, ho hum, I can sleep when I die
  23. Alright folks The boy has been putting some miles in on his Virago, but I have noticed a very small oil leak from front of the left hand casing. Originally I thought the casing has had a repair (green arrow) carried out and it was leaking from there, but on closer inspection I'm thinking it's coming from the oil seal at the starter (red arrow). Anyone have any experience of this, is it common or what. Obviously as a long time owner of auld Triumphs I dont think its much to worry about, but t'lad doesnt want an oil leak.
