Happy Christmas when it arrives folks
  2. As the forum is working now, why don't you PM Alex and ask for a solution. He has emailed me in the past, but I'll leave it to him to pass out his address

    XS1100

Can't help you there as I'm about 500miles from Kent, but best of luck with the resto. I ran an xs11 from 89 until about 2002 and loved that beast Mind and open a new thread posting loads of pics please
  5. Hi Davie. Droopy is the xs expert. He knows everything about them. Oh wait ignore that Welcome to the forum bud. Whereabouts in the West are you. I'm in Gourock

    high beam dt 50

Go into the headlamp shell. Identify the hi beam wire and trace it back. There should be a junction where a wire will lead to a switch
  7. Welcome to the forum bud XS250 you say, spare yourself the hassle and burn it now
  8. Welcome to the forum bud. I believe you are just a nervous rider on your new, to you, bike. Once you have put some miles on it, you'll not notice the weight and indeed you'll automatically know what gear you're in. You'll get used to the engine braking which will help you know your gears. I'm only 5'8" and used to cut about on an xs1100 then an xjr1200, both big heavy bikes. Once I was used to them, the size and weight issues disappeared. Enjoy your bike matey and ride safe
  9. Adjust the tickover, either on carbs or throttle cable
  10. I can understand the reluctance to refit points (that's what I believe caused my issues) but fitting them to see it the bike runs again, then you have a datum. Ref the carbs. When you're turning it over with no results, have you pulled the plugs to see if they're wet? Have you tried with the petcock on prime, maybe they are blocked Keep at it, but as you said lots of changes at one time, so you'll need to reverse your work on each stage until you get it running again
  11. Hello! Good intro and great pic. Welcome to the forum
  12. When turning the engine over and no spark, is the plug wet. Is there fuel getting into the combustion chamber I had one back in the day and it was always a bugger to start. but would do so eventually. I would regularly fit new points, plugs etc and it would be fine for a week or so then back to normal If it was running on points then you changed it to electronic ignition, I would suggest its something you have done when fitting that. Try refitting the points and see what happens, then you know,
  13. All you need is fresh petrol. Pour it over the fkr, drop a match, walk away and do not look back 40yrs and the hurt is still there
  14. The 80s or you're in your 80s Either way, welcome to the forum matey.
  15. My wife would usually sort of nod off if we had a long motorway journey. I would feel her loosening the zips on my pockets, then her hands sliding in the pockets (I was a bit slimmer then, so a bit more room in my jacket ) soon after I would feel her weight against my back. Nowadays she is a very wary passenger who tries to "lean" the other way, or nudges me when she thinks I'm moving too fast. So much so I have told her that her days on the bike are over
