  1. If you put your indicators on without the engine running you should be able to hear it clicking,
  2. Just spoke to Dave, apparently the tapered bearings are slightly taller so he suggested I order the original ball and race bearings, thanks Paul
  3. Yes you are correct the old seal fits around the shoulder but omitting both seals only gains me about 2mm I have tried the seals every which way even the wrong way up the holes are the same size. Think I am going to order some more bearings, can you recommend a supplier I was going to go through Yambits
  4. Ok here we go Yoke showing shoulder Grease seal in place Bearing in place Cups driven in to shoulders Top bearing in Stem in Top seal on Drawn up with threaded bar lock nut on 5-6 mm gap between top of stem and top of yoke. I have just re fitted it with the old grease seal which has given me an extra mm or so, see image below
  5. Ill post some photos tomorrow and see If its any clearer
  6. Im going to see if I can find the old seal, but its a bit late now ill keep you posted, thanks
  7. oh and definitely only the one seal, my photography is a little poor
  8. Yes I tried the seal that way round in desperation - I thought it may be fouling in the hole, I have it the right way round now
  9. http://yambits.co.uk/dt175mx-steering-bearing-seal-p-22412.html this looks better
  10. Hi Paul, no there were no instructions, the hole in the seal seemed odd - it wasnt a tight fit round the spindle but was way too small to fit around the cast shoulder/fixed race, you would think that the metal of the seal would be a little soft to take the forces inflicted on it and in time could cause the bearings to be out of line..... I have email d Yamaha in the hope they can shed some light.
  11. Brief away stint for work over and now back to the bike, Bearing company are claiming its the right one for my bike model etc, they suggested I left out the grease seals to gain some thread. but this got me thinking - should the bearings really bear on the seal? (see photo above) surely the bearing should bear on the cast shoulder of the yoke and the seal should fit around it, or is this how Yamaha intended it to be ?
  12. No joy stem in freezer for 48 hrs and bearing warmed in oven, large piece of pipe and a lump hammer, all in vain still as before, I have contacted the seller on Ebay I think the bearings are wrong.
  13. its no way near flush, that may well be the problem then, ill stick it in next to the frozen peas overnight, allways used to do this for wheel bearings but never needed to do it for steering bearing in the past, ill bring some threaded bar back from work too, thanks for the tip
  14. I have (not very tidily) sealed the airbox with a souldering iron and a couple of melted zip ties and tested it by filling it with water, its not pretty but seems to have done the job, not sure if there are differences between the 125 and 175 airboxes but this is what mine looks like Thanks again Im working away next week for about 2 weeks though back at wkend, was hoping to get the bike up and running before I go so I think this will surfice, gasket should arrive tomorrow
  15. Thanks yeah I figured its not right, I cleaned out the headstock, carefully before fitting but ill stick the fixed race in the freezer overnight and have a go tomorrow but it looks to me as tho its right up, If gain anything itll be a mm at most, the top bearing looks to stick up quite high but I think I need to gain at least 5mm more, Im wondering if the bearing is wrong do you think its worth putting the stem in the freezer, and warming the bottom bearing, I tried knocking if further with a drift but it didnt budge, there does seem room at the bottom. but im not sure how far down its supposed to go Ive changed the steering bearings on my Blade and Z550 in the past and never had any such issues, I will not be beaten by this bike !!!
  16. Got home today from work to find the yoke set had arrived, rushed down my tea and put the kids to bed in record time and set about fitting it but..... after putting it all together there dosent seem to be enough thread visable above the top bearing This is obviously without the top seal in place, there is just enough thread to get the nut on and tighten it but it don't seem right to me when I placed the top yoke on there seemed a huge gap between the to of the yoke and the stem top I took it all apart again, wipped most of the grese off and checked the cups were seated properly Tried driving the race further down the stem But with no luck Im sure this is not right, before I contact the bearing company can anyone shed any light? difficult to judge from the photo but there is about 3-4 mm thread visible
  17. cant find any dt 175 airbox listed on ebay in the uk, International ones seem like a lot of money and lots seem as bad as mine (Nearly) could try my local breaker but parts like this seem hard to come by.
  18. I have scince stripped off the silicone and re sealed the air box with some instant gasket and put new fixings in. the hole shown appeared with a little pressure on the outlet, I may have opened it by removing the carb but im not convinced the seal was good before this action but with the pressure released there were no obvious holes
  19. yeah it is a little bit of a concern, guess I need a 175 airbox, I assumed this was a 125 box with the 175 outlet stuck on, if i plastic welded the outlet on and made sure there were no leaks do you think it would do for now
  20. These are pictures I took in April straight after I pulled it out my shed, it had been sitting there for 2 years, I can take some more tomorrow if it helps
  21. these are the pictures I have of the airbox and carb inlet I have since re sealed the silicone around the join I have no idea what model/year these are
  22. After buying it and putting an mot on it I have only done 11 miles before it blew a hole in the top of piston. Think its had a hard life. Its a 1979 frame but with a later square section swing arm fitted the bottom of the engine is 1 1981 DT 125 with the 175 head fitted, im afraid its just one of those bikes, poor thing. In my hands it will never be the smartest but I will use it as it was intended, I assume the plastic fitting between the airbox and inlet rubber is not standard because it is attached with silicone and self tappers
  23. So that set up would give me more fuel and less airflow ??? In your opinion should I fit the 160 jet and look at getting an oiled filter, (any suggestions where from would be greatly appreciated)
  24. yeah will do, its in the postal system, if you are ever in Shrewsbury let me know, think I owe you a beer or two, thanks again
