Haha I wasn't playing the hard man. I just couldn't bare to sit in the A&E in Bradford for 8 hours. I went today. Had it x-rayed and its not broken and my ligaments are fine. It's been cleaned up properly and I will make a full recovery. It's just going to be sore for a while. I'm going to get some kevlar jeans and wear them now.

Thanks guys. Luckily I put some fork protectors on so they have saved a lot. Other than that just cosmetic damage. The things we go through for our love of bikes.

Police havent turned up yet. I'm not holding my breath. Bradford is the no1 spot in the Uk for uninsured drivers.

On my home from work yesterday and I got took out. As I was exiting a roundabout some idiot has nudged into the back of my bike and knocked me down. I've then slid up the road (dual carriageway) into the kerb and then into the central reservation. The POS has hit and run. Meanwhile Im trapped under my bike in shock and dazed and every one just drives past bare in mind this is rush hour. Anyway I got the bike off me and got to my feet and slumped over the central reservation. Eventually a guy stopped and asked if I was ok etc.I asked him to pick my bike up as my hand and knee were totalled. So my knee is out of it. The muscle is exposed and the palm of my hand is really sore. I come off lucky. I was able to get together, dust myself off and ride home.The bike is just scratched and my fork protectors are knackered but apart from that ok. Because I had boots and a proper jacket on it saved me a lot of injuries. The only things I regret is (yes I know don't rub it in) I wasn't wearing gloves it was really hot and humid and I wasn't wearing kevlar jeans. Lesson learned. Ride safe guys and always wear your gear.

Well I've tried everything, even those multi-sockets. Nothing's worked. I'm putting it to the back of my mind though. I/ve changed the oil and filter so the damned thing can stay there for now. I just tipped bike on it's side and drained the oil that way.

It just seems to have been in there for ages. Well over a year. Maybe I am being a bit melodramatic. I really like the idea of welding things to it but hopefully it won't get to that. Tried it and ended up snapping the lips off. Really starting to annoy me now. The problem is the plug is so brittle you can't use the required force. Ideally it needs to be removed with a socket or mole grips. The impact driver method seems good but can't risk whacking it even a bit. The problem is now the oil needs changing badly so I need to sort it asap.

Cheers guys. I feel better knowing that as a last resort I can always drain the oil via the filter or tip the bike on its side. Ideally I want to get the plug off so I think I will try file it down and try get another socket on it.

After being quoted £180 for a service I decided to do it myself. I've done everything apart from changing the oil and filter. I've gone to unscrew the plug and it has rounded. It was ridiculously brittle. The oil needs changing badly so I need to do it asap. I just want to know all the options before I tackle it. There must be a few other methods I don't know about. At the moment I'm thinking that I should grind a grove in the middle of it and unscrew it out with a screwdriver? Not sure what I should do?

Yeah he's supposed to be good. I once tried to book with him and he was chocca for about two months. Thats the problem with decent garages. They are just busy as............

I've got more or less everything I need tool wise. I was looking in my Haynes and it has a full list of what needs servicing on how many miles the bike has done. It's all straight forward stuff I can do. The valve clearances looked a bit iffy to me. But they seem ok.

I know this Kev, I learnt the hard way! I can get my friend who knows what he's doing to help me but he's already done loads of work. I don't want to take the piss. But I will end up doing it myself haha Your first service should be free. That's what most do, sounds like they're trying to fleece you surprise surprise.

£25 for an MOT is good. Just when I think I've found an half decent garage they have my pants down. Sick of it now. Might try the guy up the road from me (Odsal Motorcycles) He recently fitted a chain and sprockets (supplied) I think it was £40 which I was more than happy with. He has been going since 1974. He took the time to tell me how to adjust my chain properly and a few other tips. He was a really nice guy. He's just an independent garage though not a Yamaha dealer. I think I might be being a bit snobbish wanting a Yamaha FSH but it's different when you buy a bike new, you just want the best for it. (Until some POS comes along and tries to steal it)

No mate that is not true at all. The dealer you bought it from will give you your first service free. But you are free to pick and choose who you use to service it. They look really good, cheers. I always keep my receipts even for little things that only cost a few quid. Must admit I do feel better getting it serviced at a dealer but £180!!!

I'm just confused about what exactly a service is. I thought it was just an oil, fluid, coolant change etc. My bike is fine I've done all the general maintenance myself (with help from my friend) but I want to take it to a Yamaha dealer for a service to get the warranty book stamped to give it a FSH. I've been quoted ridiculous money and I just can't justify paying it. It's more than doubled from the last time and I can't understand why. Even if they change the oil, air filter etc and give it the full works it can't COME TO £180! Am I missing something here? Since I got the bike through the whole stolen/recovered nightmare I've done some general ware and tear work on it and it's running like a dream.

Alarms fitted and I've bought some more chains/locks and fitted a new outdoor security light. I haven't had a decent night's sleep since bringing the bike home. Every little noise I hear and I have to check. With all the time and effort on security and sleepless nights fretting about it getting stolen, it's taking some of the pleasure away from being a biker.
