So far just crash mushrooms and double bubble screen. Still on origonal tyres tho so I think a bit suspension fiddling and new rubber is just around the corner....Plenty power but the handling is not as good as the old R6, thats probs mostly down to the D218 Dunlops?

  3. If its valves worn then the sure fire way to tell is blue smoke from the excess oil getting past, this will be more noticible when you start the bike. Beware that the dealers not going to strip the engine then say the bores are worn! Find a mate or friend of a friend who can give a second opinion unless you feel you can trust the dealer? Are you being charged for the parts they have fitted so far that have not worked and if so did they need changing...............

Hi all, havent posted on the site for a bit due to new baby. Its blue with about 172 bhp at the crank.................and yes its another Yamaha. Nice shiny 06 R1.
  6. Defo 2003 model year or later. They got fuel injection and couple of tech mods that make for a better ride. I think 2005 they went usd forks and a bigger disc up front. Latest models actually better for trackdays but the power is further up the revs so unless you redline them you may be as fast/faster on the old one. There are some cracking deals on old model from the importers, just be carefull which model year they are offering, as u should get the usd fork model and not an earlier incarnation. Bril sports bikes tho, not much better for the money.

    fazer 1000

Anyone out there got a 2007 fazer thou? Im thinking about somethin more comfy than the R6 but still fast, handles etc. I'm gonna show my age here, is there any storage space under the seat i.e. for more than a packet of fags? and have they sorted the fueling on this years bike? Taz motorcycles have new fazers otr for 6300, has anyone dealt with this company? Cheers all.

    Oil light

Marzy, the MOT is a test to make sure a machine is safe to ride at the time of the test only. Was the light flashing before the oil change? Have you got the bike upright when you check the oil and is the oil at the top 'marking' on the dip stick, or at the top of 'the' dipstick? I run a 2003 R6 and find the best way to check the oil is to sit on the bike on level ground. Dont ride the bike untill u get this sorted......

    counter steer

Defo. a few asses riding bikes! Counter steering happens natural on modern sports bikes. A few of the big heavy lumps of latter years might corner better with a concious effoert to counter steer..........otherwise though forget it and just ride

    R6 problems?

As the other guys say, watch that front end as it can get abit lively especialy on with an open throtle over bumpy roads Some of the early R6s had a weakness for the 1st to 2nd gear change (return spring could need replacing). So avoid 1st gear abuse and you should have no probs. Otherwise bulletproof Some say the handling is a bit strange compared to other 600s but mine has been brill once I removed the squared off tyres it came with. Now on BT 014s which feel good.

    Magnetic tank bags

Hi, Thanks for that one mate. Bought one today and they only had two left. It was a bargain. £15 from Aldi. You can use it as the magnetic base plate with map holder, a centre bag, or rucksack as well. Easy to use strongfixing and didnt get in the way.
  13. Hi all. Anybody out there using a magnetic tankbag on a 2003 R6? If so what kind and what do you think of it? I'm lookin for one for my planned summer trip so any advice welcome.

    dt125r or xt125r

Soz but a small bore two stroke will ALLWAYS outgun an equal capacity four stroke..........and I love four stroke enginges. Gotta be the dt Passed my test on a KH125 ( if any one can remember them ) as all the fourstrokes were to damn slow.

    D Day hath cometh!!!

Yep, few years back now...but even then they did not like to see you being shy with the throtle when your outa the 30 zone. They like to see a positive confident rider. Wheres my pipe and slippers......

  20. Hi Dare I say look at NUKbikers site. They have a meet at Birtley once a month also lots ride outs etc. Just joined, looks a bit more North Yorkshire based but lots of Newcastle based bikers joining.....much more active on the ride out front.
  21. R U all mad . Its a dinosaur, even my dad who lives in the past had more sense and bought an FJ1200 . Would not pass emissions test any way, so I think were all safe . Some things are better as a memory......

  23. ] Hi Had a similar prob last year with a750 srad. I convinced my self a new battery would cure it. Lucky for me a mate (mechanic) said he would have a look. Turned out to be badly coroded conections to the regulator/rectifier unit that had heated up so bad the connector block had started to melt! A little bit soldering and new wires later to by pass the bad connector and everything was fine. All for the price of a four pack.....so get some one in the know and think regulator/rectifier and go from there.

    Well sqashed

Yep. Only in America. Sure we could get our insurance premiums down over here if we adopt similar attitude to thieving scum. Would we be at risk of prosecution for dangerous driving(parking)?
