  1. Hi again guys. Hope everyone had a GREAT Christmas and will have a GREAT New Year. I just wanted to post a quick note to the Mods and admin to please do not delete my account for lack of activity. I am in Ottawa, Canada. So with 7 to 10 inches of snow coming this evening, I will not actually be working on this bike until spring / summer. That's when I will likely need some pointers and assistance. In the mean time here are a few links to photos and blogs of what I have already done with 2 of my other bikes. 1979 XS1100F refurb photos https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!131&parid=root 1979 XS1100F refurb blog https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!180&parid=root 1979 XS1100F restoration photos https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!255&parid=root 1979 XS1100F restoration blog https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!257&parid=root 1978 xs1100 modified bike photos https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!408&parid=root 1978 xs1100 modified bike blog https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!258&parid=root 1978 XS100 engine hop up https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!365&parid=root 1978 XS100 engine hop up https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=5b26aa5d6f8093fd&resid=5B26AA5D6F8093FD!256&parid=root
  2. Thank you. I will find my way around as I settle in. Rob
  3. OK, so I want to restore this XS500 to her previous glory. I owned one of these bikes in 78 and it was a fun and reliably bike for me. I moved up to a new old stock 1978 XS1100 in 1980 and did so because the XS1100 is of very similar styling. In my eyes the XS500 is like the XS11s little sister. This bike I acquired is pretty close to a complete version except for the handle bars and exhaust system. The front fender is toast as are the tires, peg rubber and other cosmetic parts that see the sun day in and day out. The bike was however, owned by a Yamaha mechanic so she is a sound machine that I received already prepped for winter storage. The bike still has her plastic parts and fuel tank with factory paint on them and the seat is close to NOS. Parts will be the issue on this side of the pond because the bike was not really that popular over here so this restore job will likely take a few years. I will ether post some photos of this bike as well as some of my other bikes as so as I find out if photos can be attached within the threads or can only be uploaded to the photo gallery. Perhaps someone can answer that question for me as my first question. Rob
  4. Good morning XS500 owners. I'm new here and just acquired a 1978 Yamaha XS500 E. I wanted to add this bike to my collection because the XS500 was the first bike I ever owned and I remember the bike as being a great bike that served me well and was a lot of fun to own. I intend to fully restore the bike to its previous glory so help will very likely be needed and this looks like a good place to acquire the help I will need. Company has just come through the door so i will finish this introduction later. Rob
