  1. headlight update: so i found a bulb for my chappy......78 dollars. no way im paying that. i dremeled out the back of the bulb, went to the auto parts store, bought a bulb socket and a bulb, each with the dual beam capabilities and slapped it together. total cost. $28!! and! if the bulb blows, i can buy two of them for less than $6.00!!
  2. Thank you both, however, I really don't have the extra cash for a service manual right now. I just got laid off from my primary job, so now I am resorting to my handy man skills to get by. I installed the float, and got it somewhat adjusted... it runs like a top after it has been sitting for a little while, but then, the power starts to diminish, which tells me that the float bowl is not filling up fast enough, so the float is set too low, so some minor adjustments, and all will be good to go there. As far as the expansion chamber goes, I started a fire in my parents fire pit, got a really good bed of coals going, then I added some wood to prop the expansion chamber on, and I got it red hot, then flipped it to get the other side red hot. I tapped it with a rubber mallet after it cooled down a bit, and then shook out the loose burnt carbon deposits. then i wire brushed it, and painted it with flat black 500 degree high temperature spray paint. Looks great, and I'm getting better performance out of it!!! Now I need to buy a new headlamp bulb for it. cant seem to find one anywhere anyone know where I can find one? its a three prong 6volt head lamp, aprox 5 in round. thanks!
  3. hey everyone! im new here. i have a 1977 LB80. just got it running after it sitting in the shed for 9 years! well its almost running... the float valve had sprung a leak and filled up with fuel. so, i actually got the fuel out of it, then buffed up the sides of the little brass float cans, and re-soldered it. and there is no more leaks! i made it cold in the fridge, then submerged it in hot water, no bubbles caused from the expansion of the the air inside the floats. i just need to find out what the float valve height is now. i did some un-necessary tweaking before i realized that it had taken on extra weight. if anyone knows where i can find this information, or if you already know, i would greatly appreciate it! oh also, i had someone tell me that ti should burn out all the carbon deposits in the expansion chamber for the exhaust. how would i go about doing this? i have no torch =(
