  4. Iv got a 1985 dr600 When its warmed up and I throttle off, the revs take a while to drop to tick over stripped and cleaned the carb but its still doing it, any ideas, (its a Mikuni carb)
  5. Thanks for all your help folks. Its going now, I pulled apart every single plug, cleaned them all and plugged them back together, now Iv got a spark, Off to Weston-Super-Mere Bike meet Thursday evening with a coup;e of mates, ( when i say Mates I don't mean a Pack of 3 ) If anyone's going, I will be the one in the black leather jacket.
  6. The kill switch, clutch switch and side stand switch are fine, I agree they give trouble but if any of them fail then the starter wont operate, which it does.
  7. You could be on to something there, I will definitely check the wiring for continuity.
  8. Doh no it shouldnt be here, everything works lights, starter, fuel pump, ignition, neutral light, engine light, everything, but there is no power going to the coils. even tried it with a car battery.
  9. Got my XVS 1100 out of the shed yesterday, charged the battery, re-fitted it, and it wont start, checked the fuel flow, that was fine, checked for a spark and nothing, checked for power to the coils and there is none, with the ignition on there should be at least 12v showing but the power to the coils is 0, it cranks over OK but wont spark, it was fine when i put it away for the winter in September I even rode it into the shed, "anyone got any ideas"??? what could have happened to it, while its sat there doing nothing, Oh and the kill switch, and stand switch work fine, if they didn't it wouldn't turn over.
  10. Hi guys, anyone know if its possible to adjust the chain tensioner on a 1985 xt600E, Its my mates bike and its rattling like a diesel engine, the sound is coming from the timing chain tensioner area, is it possible to adjust, or if its self adjusting, if so, do they get stuck and not adjust themselves fully?? this happened to my 1100 drag, and I freed it up, and now its fine, "any thoughts".

  13. As" wild foamy" has said, Its probably the shut off valve stuck open, this is closed by the float in the float bowl, the fuel enters the carb faster than the engine burns it, so, you have to have some kind of shut off valve to stop the fuel over flowing (which in your case it probably is) remove the carb unscrew the float bowl and check the valve under the float, it works the same as the float in a toilet cistern. all very simple, and welcome to the forum.
  14. I'm a truck driver and have to agree to some extent, but please realise a very large amount of truck drivers today are eastern Europeans, unlicensed, untrained, over tired because they don't comply to our rest laws, some drink and drive "literally" I witness this all the time, one hand on the wheel and the other hand wrapped around a can of cheap beer, and don't be fooled by the British number plates, they are British lorry's with Johnny foreigner at the wheel for £5.00 per hour, driving 24/7. Worst of all, when they kill a member or members of your family, they simply return to Europe and come back with a new I.D. What do the police and Government do about it "bugger all" because it might upset sum tree hugging do gooder. But of course there are bad English truckers out there trying there best to kill me on my bike or my car, all in all, the quality of driving in this country is diabolical, I think everyone should be made to take a retest every 10yrs, and if you fail you cant drive until you can pass.

hostels might be 18 euro's a night, but the tunnel will cost you £80 for a bike.
  16. Iv got a front lighting bar on my XVS1100 with two 55w lights fitted to it, so Im running 3 55w bulbs and get no trouble what so ever, all three including the tail light are switched on all the time I'm riding it. I'm guessing the 1100 electrics are going to be the same as the 650, so I cant see why you couldn't fit an extra back light, after all, it would only draw 6watts when on, and 27 watts total, when you brake.
  17. hi paperback, it sounds like the needles need adjusting, I have found out the hard way that you can't enlarge the main jets without raising the needles, this allows the richer mixture to enter the carbs quicker, this may be what is causing the delay. Have a look at the reply from noise above, where he recommends checking the plugs, might be worth trying that. I know what a pain it is , but its worth it, to have a bike that sounds throaty, and not like a under powered canal barge.
  18. I'm convinced its a fuel problem, not necessarily the carbs, check you have good flow from the tank, check the fuel filter, check the pump is working OK. just out of interest, have you fitted none standard pipes? I did, and had the very same problem, you may have read my last topic. If all else fails you can give the bike to me and i will love and cherish it :babyha:
