  1. Thank you for the link, I now have a guide to follow.
  2. The lights on my bike went bright and blew, so i replaced the rectifier as advised by a friend. What a job that was as it was siezed to the bolts, And now the battery will not stay charged and it is a new battery,The voltage drops when the revs go up and at tick over it increases to 13 volts. Any suggestions of any other possible causes. they will be appriciated Thanks
  3. If you are doing an oil change and are unable to see the oil level through the window, you should measure the oil as you put it in just use a measuring jug. You just need to find out the amount of oil your bike needs.
  4. The symtoms of my starter clutch problem. When the starter motor was turned on there was a ratteling noise when the motor was engaged, then it got to a point when the starter motor would engage while the bike was being ridden Sound famillier to anyone. Tuned out to be the 3 allen bolts that hold the clutch to the magneto had worked loose, Cheapest fix is strip it down first, if it is just the bolts take them to a good shop that sells high tensile bolts. I paid 80 pence for the three bolts, some yam dealers are charging over £8.00 for the same. If you think the clutch parts are worn you can get a clutch repair kit off ebay Easy peasy to to put the parts into the clutch housing. But first you will have to remove the magneto it bolts to the back of it. A Haynes manual is priceless for all the info you need, but you will need a high strength locktite to put on the allen bolts and you will have to use a punch to stake the ends of the bolts over after you torque the bolts up. There are also some good videos on youtube that will help aswell. I hope this helps some one.
  5. I took the starter clutch off and the three allen bolts had worked loose and one had the head worn down. so i will put in a new starter clutch kit in and new allen bolts should do the trick.
  6. Found out it does'nt have a starter bendix. It has a starter clutch and the repair kit and all the bits and pieces cost less than £90.
  7. Can any one help me find a starter bendix for my XV535 Virago. Cannot find one any where
  8. Found out it could be the starter clutch or starter bendix so i got a clutch repair kit i will have a go at that soon. Cannot find a starter bendix though so i will start with the clutch first.
  9. I HAVE GOT THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 535. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ALLOY COULD HAVE OXIDISED AND SEIZED THE SCREW. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD VINEGAR WILL RID THE OXIDIZATION, I HAVE NOT GOT AS FAR AS YOU HAVE YET. SO TRY VINEGAR OR WD 40 TO FREE THE SCREW. GOOGLE NRP IN MANCHESTER YOU WILL GET A PILOT SCREW THERE. IF YOU WIN LET ME KNOW.
  10. My starter motor sometimes stays engaged, I was told it could be the idle gear sticking,So i took the starter motor out and had a look at the gear through the hole where the motor fits. I moved the gear with my finger and found there was sideways movement about 0.25mm from one side to the other. Is this ok or does the idle gear or bearings need replacing .
  11. I am going to try and do it while it is still fitted FINGERS crossed. I spoke to a carb repairer who recons carbs and he said that it is most feasible idea he has heard. Just waiting to get the mixture screw off them.
  12. This could take some time to sort out as i have alot of things going on. But i will post the results as soon as i have done it , I need to get a replacement mixture screw first This seems to be the only option open at the moment.
  13. Thank you now that i have seen it i know what you mean. Thank you again for your help.
  14. Thank you thats the best advice i have had. I have spoken to carb repairers and they have a sharp intake of breath at the idea. So i should get a pin vice and a hand drill to do the job. Thanks again for your advice
  15. A carb on my 91 XV 535 Virago has it's mixture screw head sheered off.Does any one know of some one willing to under take the the task of removing it , As i am having trouble finding any one brave enough to do it . As the screw is in a hole in the carb body and is not accessible . Are there no super hero out there.
