  1. That is pretty much what I did. First I put some muffler goo over the holes. I think it is a high temp silicone. Then I put some wire mesh on top of that and coated that with some more goo. Then a metal disk cut from a thick tin can screwed over the top. There were so many holes already in the pipes that it was difficult to get the screws to really grip, but at least a couple seem to be pretty firm. It took several hours of fiddling around with it yesterday. This morning it will go back together and I'll take it for a ride to the grocery store to see how it holds up to pressure.
  2. Thanks. Here's a picture taken up at the end of the road from the house.
  3. New member, old rider here. My 22 yr old daughter has a 1988 Route 66 250, now called the Virago 250, which she never rides and wanted to sell. I rode it a few times and realized how much I miss riding, so I am buying it from her. Back when she was a newborn I had to give up riding, as it is difficult to transport an infant on a motorcycle! I sold my Kawasaki KZ550 shortly after she was born. The suburbs aren't really the best place to ride, so this bike is really just for errands and back street use. My son will be driving age in a few months, and this bike will be perfect for his commute to high school a mile from home, or to his friends houses nearby.
  4. Good morning all, new member here from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm trying to repair a drilled out exhaust on a 1988 Route 66 250, now called the Virago 250. A previous owner drilled numerous holes in the rear of both mufflers, and now it is just too loud. There are too many holes and overlapping holes to put screws in. I'm thinking some kind of filler with a metal patch screwed on. This is a DIY project with the goal of being cheap. I am not a welder. Used pipes can be found for around $100, a last ditch option if necessary. Anybody have any experience or good ideas?
