  1. Its a modern engine so its reliable and doesnt use alot of oil. Not sure how old you are or how long you have been riding on L plates but although one of the best looking bikes around it really doesnt have alot of power. I swapped mine for a Yamaha XJ6, it has alot of extra power, much better rev range and maybe a bit more comfortable seating position. I went for the MT purely based on looks because it was my first bike and I thought " it sounds like it has plenty of power to me" and dont get me wrong. It has enough power to overtake, and to make progress but you quickly get bored especially if you find some other bikers to go out for rides with. Between the MT and the XJ MT wins hands down in terms of sound, but that about the only place it wins. On paper the MT handles better but straight after your test you wont be pushing it far enough to notice a difference. The XJ is closer to the ground so depending on your height it will feel more comfortable. It weighs a little more but nothing that will worry a guy of average build. When I was looking to change I tried a kawasaki ER6. Really wasnt as nice to look at as the XJ and didnt go as well with it being a V twin where as the XJ is a straight 4. Your other choice is a honda hornet, and I cant comment on this. The fact that you have picked the MT tells me you are prob looking for a stand out bike. The angular styling of the XJ certainly achieves this and when I have been out riding on sunny days and seen hundreds of bikes I dont see alot of XJ's which I like too! Adam_Fozz
  2. 2 hours 36 minutes. Nice looking ride:- http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=212708178119760001102.0004a53109e4827504ced Adam_Fozz
  3. Id be well up for that. I posted a topic about a Chester area rideout a while ago and there wasnt much interest Hopefully there will be more interest in this one. Adam_Fozz
  4. Good Buy, im sure you will like them. I've been really enjoying mine. Could be my height/size but im pretty sure I can see better in them despite the fact they are smaller because of where they are positioned. I thought you did have to have a plate light for an MOT. Will check it out. If you do have a problem tweeks sell an adhesive LED light for £10 which you just stick on the top of the plate so its no big deal. I went to a bike meet the other day near mine. Apparently they have changed numberplate related fines from 30 to 60 quid. The UK pisses me off, there are people running around braking laws that matter but police only seem concerned with ways to make money. (Rant over!) Adam_Fozz
  5. Yea thanks! Its good enough! Looks pretty cool. Think im going to get official yamaha tape as the other stuff in the UK looks a bit poor. Adam_Fozz
  6. Great thanks, Might give it a go! Adam_Fozz
  7. This can be done but you need access to a good welder or a decent exhaust modding company as you will need to alter the downpipes to fit the xj. As you have correctly identified you will also need the sensor welding in place. Plus you need a fuel commander to handle the changes on the ECU. I think the message is that none of the options for the xj are cheap! If you want to know exactly how this option works out, go on the FZ6R forum (name of the xj in the USA) and search Marthy Exhaust. This is one of the first guys to mod using R6 downpipes. The thread is massive with many questions answered. I decided not to bother as it looked to expensive for me. Might try to save up! Adam_Fozz
  8. I would imagine option 2 would also need a fuel controller or at least the fuel checking. Its certainly going to breathing differently after you remove the standard backbox. Adam_Fozz

    Newbie!

Hey, You can get a cheap check for about £4 (mycarcheck in google) and it will confirm the make, model, engine number, frame number, stolen, write off etc. This should be cool for a bike of this age. Anything newer and RAC do a full HPI (cheaper than HPI strangely!) for about 12-14 quid depending if there is an offer on and this will give you the all important finance check. If it turns out that their info is wrong they also pay you back the money you paid for the bike should you need to claim. Adam_Fozz
  10. Yea, Might need coloured bulbs for the new tail light. Unless your talking about the numberplate light, in which case, with his new mini plate he's pretty much running the risk of a fine anyways! (me too!) Adam_Fozz

    XJ 6

What ever gear you find yourself in don't forget you always have the option of feathering the clutch. Bike clutches unlike car ones are made to be "ridden" to a certain extent. If you find yourself in 5 but need some more power hold the clutch before or around the bite point and allow the engine to spin up and then let it out SLOWLY! This way you can get access to the XJ's higher rev power even when travelling slow in a top gears. Practice this when its quite lest you dont end up in a wheelie! Adam_Fozz
  12. Hi there. Yea heres what you need to do:- Remove Seat Remove 4 bolts holding grab handle on Pop off one plastic fairing retainer on the top and two underneath of the left side fairing. Dont use a screwdriver on the bottom of the fairing, use an hex key or something similar with a 90 degree bend to push it out from the inside. It takes a min or two to locate due to being hidden by the frame etc but then light pressure will push out the middle retaining rod. Remove the fairing. Remove 4 bolts holding on numberplate hanger (avoid letting it dangle in case you damage the wiring) Under/near the metal plate you will find a plastic cover where the wires from the numberplate and indicators enter the bike. Pop it off Where you remove the fairing locate the wires leading from the indicators etc and roll back the waterproofing cup for better access. I marked up the female and male connectors with a pen to make sure they went back in the same place. Remove the cables carefully to ensure you dont damage the connectors. There will be 6 connectors to remove. Now you can let the cables slide out and remove the old hanger When installing the new tail tidy be sure to think about which order the the nuts etc (if using aftermarket indicators) should be in. I didnt and ended up having to pull it all apart again because the nuts were on the wrong side of the tail tidy (Doh!) Use cable ties etc to make sure wiring is out of the way. Before reassembly check indicators hazard light and numberplate light are working correctly. Quick flashing indicates a new relay is required for lower wattage bulbs. Slow flashing or hazard lights not working most likely indicates higher wattage bulbs...find some lower wattage ones...standard are 10w. Reassemble Check out my tail tidy in my garage! Let me have pics of your bike when you are done! Adam_Fozz
  13. Bloody Hell whats going on? I have mini indicators from Demon Tweeks on the back of my xj6 but i cant get hold of the right bulb. They are Bax9 10w 12v bulbs. I can find the Ba9 bulbs which are the 180 degree bayonet (9mm diameter) but the BAX9 I need have offset pins on the bayonet and I cant get them in 10w...They must be available somewhere...the Ba9's can be got in 10w but I have tried and you cant make them fit. If anyone has any ideas or contacts in the bulb industry PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance Adam_Fozz
  14. Hi there, Has anybody got a yellow xj6 with yellow rim tape? I would like to see a picture as I was thinking of ordering some rim tape for mine but the pics on google are all too small or of people who havent had a very good colour match, Thanks in advance Adam_Fozz
  15. Hey, Just wondered if anyone else has done this exhaust mod that I see being thrown around the Fz6r forum. Actually come to think of it there was a sales guy at Bill Smiths in Chester who had a Diversion with a modded exhaust so I know this mod has got to our shores...if not perhaps being started here! Anyway, it sound like a simple removal of the old exhaust tip mount and exit pipe and then cutting to a 2.5 inch diameter and inserting a chrome tip. Looking on ebay, the sounds pretty good (it isnt like a performance exhaust by any stretch of the imagination) but when slip ons arent an option its the only option available for under 400 quid! Also, if you have one of the slip on extension pipes like the scorpion I would be interested to hear what you think of those. I cant see how it could improve anything without a modification to the back box. Thanks Adam_Fozz
